Been in and out of S LA the last week.....today I was in LFT and tuning across the AM band.....and heard terrible noise around 1280....found the source...1330!! Geesus, the noise was terrible and I heard it up to 1390 on the high side!! On the main carrier, it was noticable....are they trying to run IBOC???? I called the main number and asked the woman who answered if she knew about the transmitter issue....No, she said, and she then said she would transfer me to someone who could talk about it....then I got dialtone!!!

WELLLL, its time for a call to the FCC I guess...I thought Pittman was a little better than that!

With phones in the whole general region pretty well clogged up and screwed up, I'd give it another shot before calling in the FCC (But with New Orleans a ghost town, does that mean Houston is the new district office for Louisiana?) maybe a try for Pittman in Mandeville may be wiser... according to what I got, it's 985-624-9452 (Main office number)

According to Ibiquity.com who licenses the IBOC , Only KRVS (ULL) and KTDY are licensed for it in Lafayette currently...

Way too funny!

I spoke with them a few minutes ago. The phones in Lafayette
were effected by the storm too and ALL the phones at Pittman were
completely out until just a couple hours ago so I doubt you talked
to anyone at Pittman. They also said there was no female there today
either.

As for the transmitter issue, I was told they had some of their usual
transmission equipment loaned out to a competitors station to help get
them back on the air after the storm. They had their Engineer at the site
on Tuesday afternoon within an hour of the problem first occuring
and completed repairs on Wednesday. They would have been done sooner
but they had to have parts flown in to make the repair.

This all happened during a time when they were driving gas back
and forth to the WUUU FM site, the only source of information in
Washington Parish and they were assisting St Tammany Parish with
the operation of 730 AM, the main source of information in that parish.

You're right, call the FCC. We sure don't need people like
that running Radio Stations during the large disasters.

337-993-5500....that is the listed number and the woman answer as
"Pittman Broadcasting"...I called back a second time later and she answered the same...I hung up that time..

That does not explain the noise on 1330's carrier trashing the AM band over 100 khz wide!

Again, that does not excuse them from trashing the AM band....
If there is a problem, FCC rules say TURN IT OFF if it cannot be corrected.
If they cannot follow Part 73 (and Lafayette was not hit by Katrina), thats their problem.

You're right again! They should have demanded their equipment back,
forced the N.O. station off the air so even more people could have died!

Maybe we should send the FCC to all the stations in New Orleans
right now to see how many are violating the main studio rule or
does everyone have the ability to remotely to turn their transmitters
on and off? Are they taking transmitter readings? Let's make sure
that nobody helps out anyone else during this! That's a great idea.

You are redirecting/spinning the facts and are going in a different direction to try to argue against my post...LETS keep the facts straight....I was NOT talking about a N.O. station...thats great they donated parts, etc to a competitor....BUT lets get real...noone would have died had that station gone off the air anyway.(cmon....WWL and others are still on; WWL was well prepared for such issues and Entercomm would not need help from Pittman....besides Clear Channel is working with Entercomm in the NO area......if one station goes off, I bet the people will search for someone else that is on and with the United Radio effort, there is not a problem.)

BUT "I" AM talking about 1330 (you are not; you keep skewing off the subject)....ITS xmtr needs to be off the air if it is gone south......THERE is no excuse for it operating that way....it is not carrying anything relevant to Katrina (it had the butt-humor Don and Mike show on yesterday! Yeah thats REAL important!).....regardless of what they have done or "loaned" parts..If the parts they loaned should have been used to fix 1330, then they have two choices, get the parts back or; since that was unlikely, get replacements ASAP and fix the xmtr...AND if they cannot do that, TURN 1330 OFF until it can be fixed.......its NOT relevant to Katrina recovery and it trashing the AM band is ridiculous.

(Xmtr readings?? How old is that?? You obviously are not up on the current rules which do NOT require such...havent in a LONG while; jocks at my stations never take readings...the Remote Control would page me if there was a problem..and the FCC requires the situation to be taken care of in 3 hours or less....but in a state of emergency such as NO, the rules can and usually are suspended...BUT common sense still prevails; noone would leave a trashy xmtr on the air which could cause problems for another station in an emergency situation anyway BUT there is NO such emergency in the LFT area period)
