Lafayette???

Country/WKOA (K105) is still number one, and I don't think they are having much of a challenge, at leat 12+. Lot of billboards during this book, and K105's were the least imaginitive. I can't remember who had good billboards because I'm only thinking of Hot 96 in Evansville.

K105 seems to minimize their jock's presence on the air, but I do almost all of my listening on the weekends, and they could be voicetracking weekends. Dunno.

Schurz does voicetracking on weekends. I know because I met weekend Ron Miller of WASK AM/FM 3 years ago. He voice-tracks on sister station WASK and has done it for a while. At least it's in studio voice-tracking, unlike CC's voice-tracking, making smaller & medium market CC stations have cyberjocks for some or all dayparts.

Not much going on in the Lafayette market. From an earlier post, American Family Radio's 90.7 signed on last week with inspirational talk, and that's probably the biggest news to hit the market recently.

As far as the other stations go...

WASK is still sneaking in some 80s cuts into their "Superhits of the 60s and 70s" oldies, but still doing a good job being the default listen-at-work station alongside sister station, K 105, which is sounding better and better each and every day.

Z and B are just the same. No staff changes, at least from an on-air standpoint, from Z 96. I noticed about a week ago B 102.9 added in a mix show on Saturday nights to compete with Open House Party. Not sure if it's in-house or a preproduced product (like "Hot Mix"). Sounds good on B, though.

KHY is still AOR with a fairly even mixture of new rock and classic rock. They've added a few new on-air people in recent months, but I haven't had a chance to listen to them so I can't comment on them.

The Rocket hasn't changed much. Excellent music mix with Bob & Tom in the morning.

Wolf is still automated country for the most part. I believe Mike Warner is still the lone jock on the station with the satellite-fed "Country Lovin' Darren Tandy" and "After Midnite" after 7pm. The Wolf is the flagship station for Purdue sports now and will more than likely see some spike in the next book. How big that spike is will depend on how loyal the Purdue football and basketball fans are to a lackluster season.

Finally, The Mix. Think WAZY back in 2000 when they were with WW1's Bright AC, but without the jingle package, the in-house afternoon jock, and less of a community pulse, and that's The Mix. Unfortuately for 106.7, Bright AC isn't nearly as well-programmed as it was during the WAZY days. The network has become less at-work friendly and more CHR-based, which in a market that already has 2 CHRs is a ratings disaster. Plus, liners such as "The best mix for your weekend" on a Wednesday, for example, just doesn't cut it. Rick Mummey is still the lone local jock in the mornings with "Leeza Live" at night. Westwood One runs at all other times. I have to say that I have great respect for many of the people at the "The Mix" as I've worked with them in the past and have remained friends with many of them, but something needs to be done to bring the station up to where it once was. It'll take some reorganization to make that happen, though.

As far who's hot, The Rocket and K 105 are probably the best sounding stations in the market with WAZY not too far behind.

The Rocket one of the best sounding stations in the market? With what seems like a total of 50 songs in their playlist? There are so many great songs that they don't play. Heart and Foreigner and Bob Seger again today? Please. They should be thankful they have B&T. Someone needs to put a stop to Alice Cooperby the way. WAZY? Quit listening in 1995. GLM? Sell it Kelly and get it out of it's misery. The Wolf? Howlingly bad. That Country Lovin' show just shows how shallow the country gene pool is. Same goes for K105. I'm surprised a confederate flag doesn't wave out on McCarty Lane. How much longer will this Nascar Nation survive? Not long hopefully. It takes Garth Brooks and Wal-Mart to breathe a little life into things for those people. WASK? I have been listening lately and it's nothing to hear, for instance 3 Little River Band songs in one day. And then the same thing the following week. Pretty sad Selector scheduling if you ask me. Hey, the 98.7 jocks called..they want their personality back. Flashback on KHY Sunday mornings is the best most well produced radio I have heard in a longtime. That leaves Jeff 92 which at least has a library. Eclectic, but at least a little variety. Lafayette radio is like everything else. Boring.

Once again, proving these boards are full of bitter ex-radio people who'd rather bitch about what they think is wrong in the market instead of offering up thoughtful conversation.

I couldn't agree more. One day we could start sharing programming and promotional ideas and put radio back where it should be. But apparently it's easier to start pissing contests on here.

I also agree. By the way Dana your show sounds really good. I enjoyed the interview around Halloween with the ghouls and monsters from the Haunted House, actually made me laugh aloud a few times. Rare in radio these days, besides Bob and Tom sometimes.

Well Dana, I suppose we must have pissed this person off at some point in our careers.

He said he quit listening to WAZY in 1995 so he must not be bitter with you.

Obviously this person is a country hater so I certainly won't take it personally there.

Also he doesn't like The Little River Band. (Note to self: Delete "Lonesome Loser" from Selector)

I suppose we should go back to targeting bitter former jocks, eh? ;)

I wouldn't take what the poster said personally, guys. You both do a great job at your respective stations in the market.

Here's an idea... Instead of flaming stations or markets on these boards, why doesn't everyone give a thoughtful explaination as to why he/she thinks the station or stations mentioned are horrible as well as explain what they'd do to turn the stations around? I understand that just bitching is much easier, but a different approach in articulating what would otherwise be a negative statement may generate a more interesting topic for discussion.

Wow. Any compliment on here is VERY appreciated. Thanks aroundtheworldandback.
