Lake 102.3 , Will the format ever resurface in the Atlanta Area

When Lake changed formats it made me wonder just how long can this format last?I hope that soon enough, someone will change it back to the original format.. Oldies fit here, and not Spanish !!! yuk !We need another oldies station in the Atlanta area ! Enough already of the Mexicanborder music.... What do you think? I am not being insensitive but this is gettingold. WPLO am 610, E.T.C. Gwinnett needs a real local, Understandable radio station,What if I want the latest news about Gwinnett? What if I want to know whats happening locally weather wise in the Gwinnett area? Please Davis , give it up... 105.7 will kill you in the end anyway!!!

Well, if the advertiser support was there, there probably would be a station aimed at the English-speaking residents of Gwinnett County. That lack of support probably was what killed Lake 102.3. The low advertiser/listener support might also be the reason why there are no such stations geared towards residents of Cobb, Clayton, DeKalb Counties, etc. After all, radio stations have to generate a profit somehow. And considering Hispanics make up a third of Gwinnett County's population, a Spanish-speaking format does make sense on 102.3, at least for now.Still, it doesn't hurt to dream. How about News/Talk 102.3? After all, there's this slow, but steady trend towards FM stations switching to a talk format.

FM Talk/News radio . . . I have often wondered why previous owners or CC did not take WGST to FM years ago when it was a much stronger station than it is now. I am not in the industry; can those of you in the industry explain why there has not been a move for FM talk for weaker signaled PM stations like WGST years ago?

WGST was simulcasted on 105.7 from 1993 to 2000. Jacor did an LMA with Cherokee Broadcasting in order to improve WGST's programming. This was in the station's News Monster days when they had the Braves, Sean Hannity and a strong news presence. Over the years as CC took over and they whittled away the product, the station was still in the top 15 in ratings. WGST lost the 105.7 signal in late 2000 when Tim Dukes changed the FM signal to MIX 105.7. The rest, as they say, is history. Mostly a disasterous history. CC is adding FM Talkers in many markets, yet Atlanta get the anemic 640 signal with Randy Bloomquist continuing the descent into oblivion. ???

Man, is WGST a hot topic these days or what? oh well, sorry to interrupt. Its trueWGST is a real loser these days, but look at radio as a whole! Like 102.3... It is just a sad fact that radio has gone the way of the toilet. Might as well flush, and try again tomorrow. I guess thats why I have a part 15 station at home. At least I can program that to sound the way radio used to sound.

Well, more power to you. Keep up the good work.By the way, there's Live 365. There are a few stations on that server that select communities across the nation. It's worth a try.
