Lake TV

After looking at the continuing ratings slide by The Lake, does anybody else find it ironic that they're running a TV commercial that uses the Tom Petty song "Free Fallin'" as its sound track?

Is NBC airing the ad? I expected to see it durring Law and order Sunday night, but I didn't. Havn't seen the ad yet, but it'll be interesting to see.

Re: I take it you've actually seen the ratings?

...or is it just wishful thinking they fell? Since the book was embargoed, none of us without access to a paper copy of the Buffalo ARB would know.

I know quoting #'s is prohibited onthis board, but could you at least give us a hint?

The 12+ ratings that are posted show a continuous downward trend. Let's just say that the most recent (unposted) book continued that trend.

I've not seen the "Free Fallin'" commercial. If the recent Lake ratings are that bad, somebody has a wicked sense of humor, is truly "twisted" in the Monty Python sense of the word or is downright dense.

There must be a few Lake TV commercials in rotation. The comercial I've seen has a boom box in the bow of a rowboat floating in water with the song "Freedom" by Richie Havens playing through all 29.5 seconds and a brief "free your radio" voice-over. Truly inspiring.

It Is What It Is

The Lake is a good radio station for what it does. I don't expect a lot from it. That's not intended to be a left-handed compliment; simply don't expect a lot of razzle-dazzle from the radio station. It's sort of the un-radio, CD changer effect, like a low key, less erratic Jack. Except more focused on deep cuts and album rock music. The other day I heard 97 Rock play Dark Side Of The Moon for the unpteenth million time. I flipped to the Lake and they were playing a pretty interesting deep cut from Cream, "Politician." I hope the Lake keeps doing what it's doing, even though rumors of a format change have already surfaced not only on this board but within the broadcast community. The Lake is far better than Jack.

Re: I take it you've actually seen the ratings?

Well that is a pity. I do hope Entercom sticks with it though. Unless they slip below a 1 share, what else can they do? There isn't some "magic bullet" format to switch to, especially with thei lacking signal.

Here's a bold suggestion: why not give it some more time? Dump the jocks. They really don't add anything. Run it on a shoestring, but keep it the way it is. Eventually the format will find it's level. Not to mention the growing Rochester audience.

Buffalo doesn't need another cookie-cutter Jack-Bob-Alice-we-play-what-we-want-not-really format.
