Lamar Lynn

I posted this on the Georgia board a few days back, but got no replies. Thought I'd try here with this board's wider audience:

Lamar Lynn is my mentor in radio and a dear friend. He was quite popular in the Savannah market for many years in the period from 1960 to 1981. Not only did he help me get my start in radio, he introduced me to the woman who became my ex-wife. (Love you anyway, Hugh!)

My last contact with Lamar was in 1986 or so. I had heard he was doing some air work in the Macon, Georgia, area; but I was unable to confirm this, or to track him down. Lamar has family ties in Florida as well as Georgia. I would love to have coffee with the man and have him dissect my every word for clarity and diction once again.

If anyone has heard from Lamar lately, tell him his one-time protégé George would like to hook up with him to see how he is and where he is and all the rest. Point him in my direction and I will be forever in your debt.

Ample contact info is posted in my profile. If you e-mail me, just put "WATN" somewhere in the subject line, so that I won't mistake you for one of those generous Nigerians! ;) Thanks!

Last I heard of Lamar, he was in jail.

He worked for me in 1980 at WGEC in Springfield, GA. He shot a killed his ex-wifes lover over Christmas of that year. He was found guilty and sentanced to a long term. I can't recall all the details.

I do remember that he had a bit of a drinking problem, and that contributed to his act of murder. He use to keep a loaded 45 under the console at the radio station. It fell down off the shelf one day abd scared the crap out of me.

Anyway, WGEC was a joke of a radio station and they changed format sometime in 1981, after I got out of that mess. I moved on to WWSA/WCHY until 1985.

I would love to know what happened to Randy Bush from WWSA.

I suspect Lamar is long gone now. He was a smooth, lady killing, kind of voice guy.

I know, Dave ... I worked for you too! I was close to being called as a witness in the case, so I could not say much about it in the day. BTW, How the Hell are ya, pal? George.

"would love to know what happened to Randy Bush from WWSA."

As they used to say, "Only the Shadow knows. 94.1 is now an urban contemporary station of sorts; 1290 is News Talk. Radio in Savannah is still radio in Savannah, in other words.

If you want, drop me an e-mail at deepblack <at> ugaalum <dot> uga <dot> edu. I have something still which belongs to you.
