Lame 101.5 Stunt

http://www.nj1015.com/emptywalletconvoy.html

Yeah! That'll show em! ::)

Have people donate empty wallets (a not-so-clever metaphor for being "broke") and then the wallets will all be delivered to Corzine in a Hearse to send the message that "WE WON'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!". What a bunch of meaningless posturing. By the way, if people are really that broke, why are they donating wallets? Doesn't that mean that they then have to go buy a new wallet to replace it??

Another example of how the afternoon show has become hack-ville since Carton left. I'm supposed to believe that Casey Bartholomew is really worked up about Corzine and the budget? This guy has no roots here, he has no long-term vested interest in New Jersey, he bounces around the country taking whatever job he can get. He's just marching in lock-step and trying to follow EJ's format of being a "rabble-rouser" when it comes to state politics and its beyond transparent.

Little something called an "off" switch - try it if you don't like what the guys are doing - i find it that it STILL works, even on digital radios... :)

My god, THAT weak response is really getting old. TURN THE DIAL, TURN THE DIAL...yeah, thanks for the stimulating conversation. ::)

Me mentioning a stupid promotion being done by a show thats on the largest station in the state doesn't mean that I spend hours a day listening to it. I gave Casey a couple of months and that was it. Now I rarely if EVER turn on the afternoon show and if I do its to hear what the topic is out of curiosity and then I quickly move on.

I heard of this ridiculous "wallet" thing on a different show on the station and learned that it was initiated by Casey and Ray. They're trying as hard as they can to get their names in the paper again, except they don't have the chops to pull it off. And being mentioned in Bob Ingle's column doesn't count since they're in bed together. The "Jersey Guys" have become irrelevant and they're grasping at straws. Even if the ratings haven't budged (and I don't know if they have or not), the bottom line is that the afternoon show has NO buzz whatsoever in comparison to when Carton was there. They've gone from having Jersey Guy Poker Nights and "La Cucha Gotcha" to "Are you smarter than Ray Rossi" trivia contests where the winners gets a can of Spam.

Lame or not...it looks like they are getting a pretty good response according to the link you posted.

I always thought the powerful message to send was to leave the state. But poeple don't neccessarily donate their ONLY wallet, I'm sure people got other wallets lying around the house that they don't use.

You know, maybe this whole stunt is a ratings ploy. Maybe Casey Bartholomew doesn't have long-time Jersey roots, so what should he care about New Jersey politics? But it's still a message that resonates with listeners of the station.

Call it what you want, but people are rallying behind this campaign and it's lighting a fire under their bellies.

Gov. Corzine is a big government leftist. He never found a tax he didn't like, a branch of government he didn't want to expand, a new branch of government he didn't want to add, or a "blue ribbon panel" he didn't want to convene (you know, to give his friends some cushy state jobs).

People are getting fed up with the insane amount of government spending and the ridiculously high cost of living, which only has become worse with higher tolls, higher sales tax, and higher property taxes (contrary to what Corzine campaigned on). If this inspires people and motivates them to take action, I'm all for it.

NJ 101.5 is pretty much the only statewide media where you'll get an unbiased perspective on state government. The two television stations rely on state government grants and would never speak critically of the current administration.

1. Wow a ratings ploy? No way. Bold thinking. Maybe? There is no maybe about it. All radio is a ratings ploy.

2. This is not a message board to debate politics

3. You must be deaf if you have listened to NJ 101.5 and considered it "unbiased" coverage of state government. They are conservative talk. Nothing wrong with calling it what it is. Just because they pose the opposite of the nj state government's opinion doesn't mean they are being biased. If you ask me NJ 101.5 along with all other media outlets who have a clear bend, be it conservative or progressive are doing a tremendous disservice to the public. If radio wasn't ALL a ratings ploy perhaps we would have something left somewhere that looked, sounded like, or read like actual journalism, not just an appeal to an audience.

I have to agree....Every time I turn on 101.5 I hear nothing but conservative leaning talk.....I used to listen to Dennis and Michele but every time I turn it on I hear nothing but Dennis bashing Obama and the Democratic Party....I used to enjoy the show when they talked about things other than politics but that's not happening these days....And when they do talk about something other than politics they still throw in their digs....If that's what makes them money then they should continue what works for them.....However, it would be nice to have a NJ news/talk station that truly is balanced.

I have listened to NJ 101.5 on and off over the years, and I wouldn't call the station "conservative talk". Many of the personalities on the station were every bit as critical of former Gov. Whitman's policies during the '90s. Tommy G is definitely not a conservative - he voted for President Obama. Dennis Malloy is not a conservative either - he's a libertarian. A few weeks ago, The Jersey Guys criticized the mayor of Point Pleasant Beach (a Republican) and his proposal to charge people for parking anywhere in the town.

Being privately held allows NJ 101.5 to report the news in a way that you will never hear from any network that receives state financial backing. While those networks will always do puff pieces on whoever the sitting legislators are, 101.5 will call out bad ideas and take shots at whoever proposes them. They're not partisan - they're populist.

Tommy G voted for Obama, Limbaugh endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. What is your point? That doesn't make their content unbiased. I fail to see why anyone is afraid to admit that 101.5 is conservative talk. I wish they were not. I wish NJ had an actual news station that didn't have a bend. Since they are privately funded and not in anyway beholden to the NJ government for funding it would be nice if they actually had a real news station at Millennium. It would be nice if there was anywhere in the US that had something to pass for real journalism. I'm not necessarily criticizing them for having a bend I guess, but so long as they do it should be recognized.

Ya know, satellite does cover NJ. I loathe 101.5, haven't gotten even traffic from them in years. Stupid second-city mentality, pedestrian politics. Move the f*** on.

Tommy G is getting on my nerves.real name Tommy Gordon.everynight his whole show is him trying to make him sound better then everyone else.I even heard him say he was rich a few times.with him working at WKXW in the middle of the night he is anything but rich!!!.he is lucky if he makes 60 thousand a year..I even heard him say everyone at wkxw is jealouse of him because he is so rich and famouse.if he is so famouse then why does he have the same 20 people calling him hour after hour night after night?when someone new calls him he begs them to call back.this guy is so sick its not even funny.I only listen becouse of the drunk callers are funny as hell..the callers make that show what it is not him.I just get tired of hearing Tommy G this and Tommy G that.Tommy Gordon needs to get a reality check..

What a hostile post by TommyGraser. I've been listening to Tommy G since day one and if anything he comes across as the most humble person on the air on 101.5 just happy to be alive after his heart surgery. I know some maybe upset he voted for Pres. Obama and the last poster may be one of them.

As for the same callers night after night that's not true I haven't heard Oscar, Fran, Laura ( Baby Baby ) in a long time. ) I don't hear drunks so the last poster must be hearing things. Tommy has a lot of enery and his midnight hour last night from which I heard was really engaging. Listening to Tommy G all these years ( I follow his myspace and facebook ) you learn he had a book out and does many projects during the day. His stock market predictions have been scary correct and he drives a new Corvette so his day projects must pay off very well for him. Yes I'm a fan so I listen to Tommy G all the time and I hear new and many callers every night. I find Tommy G smart, fun and exciting. I'm not jealous of Tommy G's success like some apparently are I'm actually happy for him that his hard work has paid off in life.

To Randy K - bravo, dude!! :)

To TommyGraser - i don't know where you're coming from, dude, but let me chime in on this one:

1) I'm not Oscar, Fran, Laura, or BabyBaby (that's obvious... ;)) - I'm Andrea, I live in Brooklyn, New York (yes, NJ 101.5 comes in clearly in Brooklyn sometimes... :)) and i'm one of the NEWEST members of the "Tommy G Cavalcade"...I've ALREADY called in a few times...

2) I have found Tommy G to be VERY engaging, VERY funny, VERY direct, and VERY MUCH from the heart, and a REAL delight...

Andrea
