Today I ran the AM dial in Tucson. Just let the scan button find the local signals. There is some real good stuff on there, much to my disbelief. And I am talking about the local parts--not the syndicated canned programs.
Specifically I found professional sounding presentations on 1290 (a 3 person sports show from a bar near the U of A) and on KGVY (1090 I recall, from Green Valley?). KNST was pretty good.
Then there was the mysterious 1330. The woman sounded like a real personality, but the Fred Imus guy? Holy crapola. That was quite the experience. He was playing some fiddle music at one time and some blues guitar another. Then he was talking about tonight's U of A mens basketball game "at 9:30 eastern time"--a broadcast that will be heard on a competing station, 1290. Oh, and the U of A Womens basketball game which 1330 will carry starting at 10:30pm from Alaska?
At one point he told the female cohost who said something about "soft" that "that happens to your PECKER too". She fumbled around but maintained composure while he jokingly apologized for saying it. WTF?
Anyway, he sounded a little like the guy on KXCI who started a country show at 6pm with someone called "The Bastard Children of Johnny Cash." Yes, that there is some true entertainment folks. And the host was a lot better than Fred Imus.<P ID="signature">______________
