Lamey's Colts Broadcast poor in losses

I understand it's acceptible to have a complete homer for an NFL announcer, but last week's colts loss was the worst I've ever heard Lamey. It's bad enough to listen to a loss, without Lamey's constant WHINING and complaining about how bad the refs are, how bad the team executes, etc. It's like watching the game with your brother that NEVER STOP BITCHING about the calls, plays, coach, quarterback, etc.

It's depressing listening to Lamey when the colts are losing. At least go to the 'professional voice' for those of us who ARE fans and hope for a fourth quarter miracle, despite the odds.

Fortunately, I have Sirrius radio, and was able to switch over and listen to the Packers broadcast so I didn't have to listen to the defeatist attitude.

I understand HOMER - but get RID of WHINER!

Thanks Radioho, I've always thought I was the only one who didn't like Lamey's game call, I finally had to just stop listening. Having worked in several other NFL markets where you have the opportunity to listen to ther play by play people, I am shocked and horrified to hear people rave about how great is 'the legend' Bob Lamey. Whether the Colts are winning or losing, he's just bad. If you are watching the game live or on TV with the radio on, you see he how many calls he gets wrong. He routinely calls the wrong players name on a play-even the Colts players-and seems to be in such a hurry to call the outcome of a particular play, he apparently just makes it up and hopes for the best-then he has to correct himself when it doesn't turn out the way he thought. The worst is on his interview show with Bill Polian, where I can't enjoy the tidbits of wisdom from Polian for all the heavy breathing from Lamey. I wondered at first if he was on a respirator or something, but I was told by those who have known Lamey that he is not, so maybe a new microphone or something would help. I don't get how someone like this has lasted as long as he has. I understand he was big decades ago doing high school hockey or something here, but how he ever got beyond that, I don't know.
As a listener, I'll take Mark Boyle as the epitome of a professional pbp guy anytime. The Colts should hire Boyle away from the Pacers and blow out Lamey. And before someone starts blabbering on about how much more difficult it is to call one sport over another, save your breath. They all have their own challenges, and to me Lamey is one of the worst I've heard.

Lamey called matches for the Indianapolis Racers of the World Hockey Association, considered at major league equivalent to the NHL at the time. Racers players included a very young Wayne Gretzky, who also attended Cathedral High School at the time.

I have some recordings of Lamey's play-by-play. He was a loud, obnoxious, whining hack then, only he was lot thinner than he is now.

I've been saying things like this about Lamey's pxp on this board for about three years -- although I do give the Colts credit for kicking Ted Marchibroda to the sideline.

"Thats right, PTBoardOp.."

I had the opportunity to meet Coach Marchibroda once, he was a very nice & very courteous guy, but I agree he isn't made for the radio. And along that line, whats the deal with that Zoop(sp?) guy on there pregame show and seemingly all the in game commercials? I was told he used to be the weight lifting coach with the team, but now has somehow become some big executive with the team. I can say that like Coach Ted, he's definitely not a broadcaster. Is the Colts organization so small-time and shortsighted they put guys like that in these positions? Maybe he's a brilliant thinker and philosopher, I don't know never met the man, but from hearing him on the radio, it seems very doubtful. I know it doesn't really affect me one way or another (I just choose not to listen to their inane pregame show anymore), and has nothing to do with the original thread regarding how bad Lamey is, it just seems a pretty strange way to run a mega-million dollar business like an NFL franchise.

Doesn't Lamey WORK for the Colts? Lamey reflects the views of the majority of Colts fans, many of whom turn down the tv audio to listen to him.

You missed the point of the original complaint. I realize he's an employee for the colts and wouldn't expect him to be anything but a homer - that's a given.

My point is he WHINES and pisses and moans and listening to him, many games are over before halftime. It's deflating, depressing and a lot of work to listen to him during bad stretches of the games or losses.

Try a little professionalism and if you want to cry about a call, just call the damn game and spare me YOUR bitching about calls, player mistakes, etc. The broadcaster should be like the officials, you shouldn't even realize they are there. Just CALL THE GAME and spare us your EMOTIONAL BREAKDOWN with EVERY loss or bad play.

Satellite radio enables you to listen to both home and away game calls, if you listened to other games around the league, you would notice how 'lame' the announcers and overall broadcast is on the Colts Radio Network.

And i'm not sure how many people actually turn the sound down on their TVs anymore - I think that is a myth.

i think the word you're looking for is "passion" - which I can live with - but CRYING and WhINING as an emotion is unprofessional.

You WILL NOT hear that type of broadcast on the collegiate level - especially TOP 25 - even from homers.

Every professional sports broadcaster will tell you the main place to hear 'unprofessional' play calling is the NFL. but lamey is one of the worst in that regard.

And I still have the WIBC 45-rpm record they put out with lamey's Racers call (i believe there was some sort of WIBC jingle with a little kid singing on the flip side). But that was one of the best compliations of hockey calls I've ever heard. I'll never forget it, it was great - but of course, they didn't put on all the crying he did during those years, just the hyper fight calls.

"a left, another left and another left and another..." I'll always remember it.

All this talk about Bob Lamey is very interesting as he was a cryer and a whinner in the halls of WIBC when employed there. Not to mention a back stabber! God that felt good!
