Lamptimer Malfunction?

What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports is a goin' on at Lumberyard 14~Forty? Thursday night the 14 in a row gold mine was blastin' away well after local sunset. Not that puny 52 watts..but we're talkin the full 5kw! No hash from south of la frontera underneath, just hour after hour of Oldies pow-pow-power. Nurse Jeff and I are convinced the Gumpdusky geniuses have no idea their little Scottsdale daytimer has a broken lamptimer, and we aint tellin'. The only thing unanswered: just how long has this been goin' on?

If you mean tonight, since at least 6:30 or so. I haven't checked them
around monthly sign-off for a while but last time I did they were already
off before the specified time.

I have dialed around quite regularly :20-:40 after sign-off time and
KFNX 1100 Cave Creek has usually been in compliance. Can't say
the same for KFNN 1510 Mesa however (more often than not).

And, some mornings around 6:15 going through the 'Tuke Stack
(I-10/202 Santan/Pecos Road) the Kay-Funn signal seems to be
juiced more than their giant 100 watts. Must be real important
to get that biz news out further than a piece of north Phoenix.
Hey, there's always the biz guy/investment shill on snooze/talk
92/3 KT'R-FM at 6:25. Always a thrill, especially right after a
sterling Michael Dixon movie review. ;D

BTW, it's 9:50 and Lumberyard 1440 is still on and cranking out
5000 watts. Maybe we'll get a new FCC rule: no lamp timers.
Have they been doing legal IDs at the TOH? Yeah, right. :D

The Nurse and I didn't hear any ID close to the TOH, but the FCC allows a great deal of wiggle room on that requirement. What we found interesting last night was the total lack of one commercial per quarter hour, as they do during daylight hours. If TMISU can fetch $3m for Sports Parking Lot 8~Sixty, whattaya think is the market value of Lumberyard 14~Forty? And could Gumpdusky part with such an awesome facility?

Scanning the dial at 5:45 a.m. this morning (Friday), I was surprised to hear them at full power and it was still dark outside................

You guys are probably the only few that even noticed that station was on-the-air.
Does anybody even listen to AM radio anymore.

I only listen to any terrestial radio only when Im FORCED to "In company vehicles" where I have no choice.
and there are times, when I just shut the radio off and listen to the road noise.

AM/FM has become VERY DULL!
Even stations that are supposed to be so cutting "EDGE" play the same repetitious tracks over and over and over.
HEAR that 103.9?
Yes they occasionally do the "Remember this track" once in a blue moon, but it's not enough.

Energy 92.7 has become background dance beats, one song resembles the same manufactured song that was just played beforehand.

about the only thing I find myself listening to is NPR on KJZZ and even that becomes tiresome, because all they talk about is "IRAQIRAQIRAQIRAQ"
you would think the USA does not exist after listening to NPR for long.

ok Im off topic, Im gonna go crawl back under my rock now :)

Um, have you seen the past few Arby Trons for 55/FYI?

No I have not seen there arby ratings, are they doing good.
I used to listen to them, but turned them off, because of all the anti-mexican illegal talk.
it seemed like thats all they were talking about, so I have not been back since.

AZOOTEN, I wouldn't say nobody listens to AM anymore. If you looked at Arbitron, you could see that KFYI is ranked #2 in Phoenix. That's A LOT of people listening to AM, itself.

But you're right, they do talk too much about illegal immigration and Iraq. Too much for me, too. But I guess not too much for a huge chunk of listeners!

I feel that way about FM, because I can put any music I want on my Ipod and not have to put up with annoying chatter and commercials. But AM is fun. Talk show hosts are SUPPOSED to be annoying, they stir things up. Phoenix news stories are great, our crazy governers, Sherrif Joe, flak over New Times investigations, crime (unfortunately). And AM can be so funky like KTNN and KSAZ, and those same two stations have programs highlighting local/cultural artists who wouldn't otherwise be heard outside of their own counties. NPR has a pompous bunch of announcers. If I want an intellectual's take on events I can listen to Dennis Miller and hear it with a sense of humor. I like Bob Dylan's satellite radio program, but some of the others act kind of elitist. That's just not fun.

Today was ASU women's basketball on Lumberyard 1440 at 4:00pm.

Luckily the game itself had ended prior to 6:30 (March sign-off).

As the witching half-hour came, a post-game show was on, with
the announcer throwing it to a stopset. At 6:32:18, the plug was
pulled in the middle of a spot and zap! 1440 was off the air. And
per standard Gumpdusky (mal)practice, no legal ID.
