Lancaster. Pa. Broadcast TV

This is a crosspost from the DX section..Being more about TV I thought I might get more of a response here..

My wife and I will be going on a 4 day trip to Lancaster, Pa, Mainly to catch a concert at The American Music Theatre by Ex-Statler Brother Jimmy Fortune. We will be traveling by Greyhound from Akron, Ohio Jan. 26 and returning Monday Morning Jan. 30. Whenever we take trips like this I like taking a handheld TV set to see what might be receivable over the air..Just in researching, I would probably expect to receive these channels:

8 Lancaster NBC
15 Lebanon UPN
21 Harrisburg CBS
27 Harrisburg ABC
33 Harrisburg PBS
43 York FOX
49 Red Lion Ind.

I have 2 questions:

1. Are there any Low-Power TV Stations around Lancaster I might pick up?

2. Will Philadelphia or Baltimore stations come in at all?

We will be at the Holiday Inn Express at the Rockvale Square Outlets just off Route 30..

IF you can get it, I think Harrisburg has a low-power station on channel 65 which relays WPHL-TV (WB) channel 17 from Philadelphia. The market does not have its own WB affiliate.<P ID="signature">______________

I don't think W65AV is on the air. I've not been able to receive it the last few times I've been through Harrisburg, and I do remember receiving it before. Much like W53HJ, which is also gone.

You might receive W35BT, which is just a few miles west of the WHTM (ABC27) tower, though it's an LPTV running Cornerstone Religion. Also, WLYH (UPN15) is licensed to Harrisburg, although their tower is closer to Lebanon.

As far as Philly or Baltimore... it's a long shot, but you might be able to get them. Both are about 55 miles out, so... who knows.

WTVE 51/ Reading, PA should be a closer shot. Programming is not impressive, though.

Some Phila. stations might reach Lancaster.
1. They are significantly viewed in Lancaster. Cable carries Phila. TV without blackouts in Lancaster.
2. Phila. stations give weather to Lancaster, and frequently. You'd think the DMA included Lancaster.
3. I am not sure about the Lehigh Valley stations. Most likely they won't reach in, and only WFMZ if so.

York County can get Baltimore TV, and I think better than Lancaster Co. can get Philly TV, by 10 miles.

With a handheld TV? Not likely. My handheld TV won't give me anything on 2-6 unless I'm within 20 miles of the transmitter, most likely because the antenna isn't long enough to capture the long wavelengths on 2-6.

Wouldn't one be able to get either WJLA 7 or WUSA 9 from DC as well? I would think you would given the proximity between DC and Baltimore isn't all that much different. I don't think you'd get WRC 4 or WTTG 5 or the DC U's though.

There's also the Indie on 69 (calls excape me at the moment) but I believe they're out of Reading, PA too.

Cheers for now :)

A definite no on WRC, as WHP-DT is on channel 4. I imagine the bleed from WGAL-8 would destroy WJLA and WUSA, depending on how close one is to the transmitter.

WFMZ Allentown.

I wasn't aware, or missed the fact, that you're using a
handheld TV. Try Channel 11 or Channel 13 (WBAL and WJZ,
respectively) and see if you have better luck.

I realize a handheld isnt going to do as well. I almost never get 3 or 5 from Cleveland but do get a picture from channel 8 also 9 from Steubenville and sometimes 7 Wheeling, W. Va. The UHF's from Cleveland and Youngstown come on in varying quality depending on my location in my home area..Of course all Akron and Canton ststions come in quite well.
