Lanny Frattare

Got to give him credit not only for being a class act as a broadcaster, but for sheer endurance in putting up with those terrible Pirate teams of the last 15 years since they let Bonds and Bonilla get away. A lesser man would have buckled...maybe trading Jason Bay and shipping him to Boston was the last straw (it sure would have been for me...).

Oh, well, Lanny will go away from the game at least with good memories of calling the accomplishments of Wilie Stargell and the "Family"...

Lol..Bonds and Bonilla...they , ...combined,...did exactly what in the playoffs for the Pirates.

This was Bonds prior to the "cream and clear" treatments he took.

Was not aware Mr Frattare was a Rochester native. He took over my last year in Pittsburgh, and he was and is a class act.

have a great retirement, sir and thanks for your great contributions to Baseball.

Rochester, NY can boast of a few great talents that made it in play-by-play sports. Lanny Frattare, Nick Nickson, Jr. and Josh Lewin. :)

Add Hank Greenwald to the list of Rochester natives who made it big doing play-by-play.
He grew up in Brighton, graduated from SU and went on to do major league baseball and NBA play-by-play.
He was a joy to listen to.

Pete, you beat me to the post!  Van Wieren, unless I'm mistaken, attended Charlotte High - the same high school that Frattare graduated from.

Doubtful that many high schools can count two major league play-by-play guys among their graduates.

And what about the late Jack Buck of St. Louis Cardinal fame? Not sure he was a local guy. but didn't he do the Red Wing games early on.

I enjoyed the two seasons that Hank Greenwald was the lead play-by-play man for the Yankees with Tommy Hutton as the color analyst. :)
