BOSTON -- Long-time Boston radio news anchor Gary LaPierre is recovering from open-heart surgery at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington.

In a memo to the staff at WBZ radio, News Director Peter Casey said LaPierre underwent triple bypass surgery Thursday morning.

According to LaPierre's family members, the procedure went "extremely well."

LaPierre has been the lead morning news anchor at WBZ for more than three decades.
