Laptop Audio Computer Question (radio related)

I have a 5-year old Compaq laptop that only has an earphone jack
and a 'microphone' jack for plug-in...

Problem is when I try to record Seattle stereo FM radio stations on the mic input
like using a "line-in" jack, the output always comes out in mono,
even though I AM using a STEREO 2-way plug...

What do I need to do to make this into a stereo 'line-in'?

Thx!

The audio drivers may need updated...Some of the older laptops only have Mono audio on the on-board audio cards...If you post the model number of the Compaq Laptop, more people could help and the website might actually have specs for that model...

Secondly, maybe the audio program you are using to record is not set up properly...personally, when I'm doing long-form mp3 recording, I use a progarm called CDex...CDex is available for free, just give it a Google...Inside the program, there are settings that will let you record from your audio input or on-board audio card...

Or...If you want to skip the air product altogether, check out Screamer Radio at www.screamer-radio.com

Screamer Radio is a all-in-one program that will play a stream and capture it at the same time...

The Stream Center is a huge bookmarked list of Radio Stations in the US streaming at www.thestreamcenter.com

It's a Compaq Presario 12XL505/May 2001 model issue

>>> maybe the audio program you're using to record is not set up properly...

Pretty simple and standard really:

I'm using a Sony FM stereo walkman with a stereo plug from that,
going INTO the laptop's ONLY line-in jack: the 'microphone' jack - -

- It records the radio fine, but only in a very clear and crisp MONO
from stereo radio stations.

Mic inputs are always mono, that's why it doesn't work. Get a USB connector from a computer store that allows you to ship audio into your computer via a USB device.

Right - that's seems to be the only way -

..or a PC-Card sound system with a stereo audio line maybe.

Thx!
