Large Playlist or small?

Mix 96 in Tulsa is playing the same small group of 80s songs over and over and apparently, according to Abritron, it hasn't hurt them. I hear Freeze Frame by the J. Geils Band everyday on that station. They also play Centerfold by the same band every day.

What do you think about playlists? What is the perfect size for a Gold based format? SHould it be hot and tight, or large and in-charge? :)

Let's discuss!

I am so sick of Mix 96 I can't stand it. They play the same songs over and over ond over and over and over and over. Who the HELL can here the same 40 songs three times a day EVERYDAY they have got to get a new PD or add more music. Just like Mix 96 I can go on and on and on and on and on about how much Mix 96 SUCKS music wise. You know what makes me mad is that they have great djs it's just the same songs over and over.

Chuck Stevens is one of the most talented jocks in the city. The thing is...he's funny as all get out, warm and easy to relate to.

When he gets into a forum where his personality can really come through, he shines.

He'd be a great morning guy if he ever decided he wanted to pursue that.

Speaking of KRAV, remember a jock by the name of Johnny Rivers that use to work for the station back in the early 80's. Whatever happen to him?

Re: Small playlist and good talent

I think JR is a working for one of the casinos here is Oklahoma.

You are correct about the talent on KRAV. They are all very good. Even on the weekends, they have good talent. I do like their new morning guy better than the last. Chuck has been around for a long time. (if it is the same one that worked at KVOO once upon a time??)

As for the short playlist, that is AC radio. Since it is Cox, one has to assume that they are doing their research. The station is always playing ths hits and nothing but the hits. I do like their weekend shows that go a bit deeper into the library, but those shows really don't take too many chances either. Their Saturday night show is fun to listen to. The host is good, but relaxed and fun.

I have had the station on all weekend. For what it is worth, I think they sound fine. (Thankfully they don't play Delilah on 96.5 either...she sucks!)
