Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon Ever On Radio?

I somehow recalled that the JERRY LEWIS MDA TELETHON was also simulcasted on Radio too? Does anyone know if the Telethon (not highlights but the entire telethon) was ever broadcast on radio plus ay radio stations broadcasting it today? Thanks!!!

Talk about the smallest market not doing the telethon...it's KTVF here in Fairbanks; because of their always awful local segments, sister station KTUU in Anchorage have taken over, making it a statewide affair. Guess that means a much better set, location (the Millennium Alaska Hotel)...and fatter toteboard!

WJTC-TV, an independent station in the Mobile-Pensacola TV market, may only cancel the local segments of the telethon and begin airing the national telethon at 12:00 AM Monday. The last time the station cancelled those segments was on September 5th, 2005 due to the effects of a tropical cyclone named "Katrina". This would be their 12th year broadcasting the national telethon, which was once carried by former NBC affiliate WALA-TV until 1993 after the MDA of Mobile was shut down to consolidate jobs with a similar office in Jackson, Mississippi.

Strange that you mentioned WJTC in Mobile (market #60 or #62). Even though MDA.ORG list them as carrying the telethon, and they have carried it for over 10 years, it's not listed in the newspaper or on-screen TV guide at all this year.
Also, back in the early '90's WJTC and WALA (under two different owners) both carried the telethon for a couple of years. I always thought that it was insane that two stations with their towers only 10 miles apart plus WGN on cable were carrying the same darn Telethon. I think at that time people in Fort Walton got to watch the telethon on WJTC, WALA, WMBB, WTVY and WGN.

I know it's for a good cause, but I've just always hated telethons. MDA, NPR, PBS, college radio, they always seem to be on when there's noting to watch or listen to on any other channel.

I remember back in the 1970's and 1980's, How I hated the MDA Telethon because the Sunday Night Programming was preempted. In fact, there was one movie that was preempted (can't recall the name of the movie today) and it wasn't going to be repeated. That is probably why some TV Stations are only running the telethon on Labor Day Mondays only so there would be no Prime Time Preemptions? Just a guess?

I think these days, many stations are delaying the telethon until after the news (or the next day), mainly to avoid losing too much ad money.

Nope. If you want it - they will buy your time. They are not very fussy. Even most main channel delays are acceptable to them.

My stations did it in the 80's but the lazy staff would rather stay home. It wasn't worth the moaniing. In later years, we just clicked on the automation (and eventually got rid of the staff). Jeff Rollins sounds better, anyway.

No more payroll, no more problems. Then I got an eyefull of what I mentioned (above).

WJTC-TV did not begin carrying the telethon at 12:00 AM like they did in previous years, as I realized early this morning while monitoring the local stations for their weather reports and enjoying some of the overnight programming on Nick at Nite and Cartoon Network. WJTC-TV continued with regular programming ("The Dead Zone", "Maximum Exposure", etc.) and the usual weather graphics near the bottom of the screen. During the "off air" hours, WJTC-TV had a weather map that changed whenever a reporter on "sister station" WPMI-TV used it to report on the storm.

Without any prior announcements, WJTC-TV had the telethon at about 7:00 AM this morning without local segments.

Yeah, I just noticed the telethon is currently on WJTC myself. It wasn't listed in any schedules and they went with 4-5 hours of "dead air"/weather map overnight, so the telethon must not be all that profitable in Mobile. I haven't watched for the content of local cut-ins.
