Largest market with no RTV, This, Antenna or MeTV?

I'm beginning to think that my home market of Rochester NY may qualify for that dubious honor. No Universal Sports, either; here's the entire subchannel lineup:

WROC 8 (CBS/Nexstar) - no subs
WHEC 10 (NBC/Hubbard) - local weather on 10.2
WHAM 13 (ABC/Newport) - CW on 13.2
WXXI 21 (PBS) - World on 21.2, Create on 21.3
WUHF 31 (Fox/Sinclair) - TheCoolTV on 31.2

I can usually see RTV on WGRZ 2.3 and Universal Sports on WGRZ 2.2 from nearby Buffalo, and ThisTV was briefly visible on cable here (but only to QAM users) by way of Buffalo-market WNGS. There's been no sign of an Antenna TV affiliate in Buffalo or in nearby Syracuse, either.

Can anyone (and by "anyone" I probably mean Trip) come up with a larger market with none of the new subs?

Yup. That Hubbard...they got Rochester and Albany (WNYT) from Viacom in trade for WTOG in St. Petersburg.

As far as I know, the San Francisco Bay Area market (#4 nationally) has none of the 3. The bankrupt and barely surviving KRON 4 was listed as an RTV affiliate for awhile on 4.2 - but unless you get your signals OTA (and almost nobody does here due to the hilly terrain), you won't be watching.

I don't think Rochester is the largest, though it depends on what you count as "having an RTV affiliate."

West Palm Beach has an "RTV-HD" affiliate WHDT, but it's operating at VERY low power to the point that most of the market can't even see it. It's just enough to cover the city of license, Stuart.

If that does count, then I think Flint, MI is the largest by READS Rank, and Fort Myers, FL by Nielsen DMA.

And Lkeller, the Bay Area has This TV on 42-3.

Same thing in NYC. WKOB-LD carries RTV, but they have an extremely weak VHF signal that supposedly people within the city limits can't even pick up. So *technically* NYC has an RTV affiliate, but with no cable carriage and a weak OTA signal that barely covers any of the market, I would hardly even count it as a station.

We're not in the "don't have any" list, with Antenna on WJW 8.2 and This on WUAB 43.2.

But we have RTV on a slew of low-power analog stations most people in the market can't get, with spotty cable carriage. The southernmost RTV affiliate (WIVM/52 Canton) will go digital soon, and already has some of its own rebroadcasters in digital.

I only bring this up because it appears This and Antenna are both affiliating on mostly full-power subs, with some attention to cable carriage, and RTV has quite a few anemic LPTVers or LD stations.

Peoria/Bloomington, IL also has that honor in central Illinois:

WHOI-19 (19.1 ABC, 19.2 CW)
WEEK-25 (25.1 NBC, 25.2 weather)
WMBD-31 (31.1 CBS, no subs)
WYZZ-43 (43.1 Fox, 43.2 Cool TV)
WTVP-47 (47.1 PBS, 47.2 World, 47.3 Create)
WAOE-59 (59.1 My, no subs)

Plus some parts of the Peoria/Bloomington market can also receive WWTO-35 (35.1 TBN) LaSalle/Chicago. However, when I was visiting family at Christmas I noticed that their four additional TBN subchannels (Enlace, Church Channel, etc.) were off the air. Anyone know what was up with that?

No Universal Sports, RTV, ThisTV, MeTV or Antenna TV in that market, at least not yet. However, parts of the market can pick up RTV through WHBF 4.2 (Rock Island, IL) or This on WBUI 23.2 (Decatur, IL), and coming soon Antenna TV on WQAD 8.2 (Moline, IL).

Austin, Texas (market 44) is pretty deficient in the subchannel department. No RTV, This, Antenna, MeTV, LATV or Universal Sports, among others.

Stations with subchannels:
KVUE (ABC, Estrella, local weather/traffic)
KEYE (CBS, Telemundo) ... used to have RTV till they added Telemundo
KNVA (CW, Cool TV)
KLRU (PBS, Create, KLRU-Q -- locally programmed subchannel)

Here in Denver, we've had RTV for quite sometime in KCDO 3 from Sterling, CO (In fact, they were on DirecTV in Denver when they were with America One). Now it's on Comcast Channel 3 (They moved KTVD 20 to Channel 5 to make room).

And now, we have AntennaTV by way of KDVR-DT 31.2

No sign of the others though.

Cheers :D

RTV is available in Austin through KVAT-LD 17, or so it claims on the RTV affiliate page. If not for KVAT-LD, I would have listed that as the largest market without any of the classic TV subchannels depending on whether you count West Palm Beach.

And KCDO is no longer an RTV affiliate, having dropped it on November 1, but Denver still does not qualify since, as you mention, Antenna TV is on 22-2/31-2.

KTLA has This TV on 5.3 and Antenna TV on 5.2, RTV is on KFLA-LD, but no one can get their whopping 300 watts of power, so I'd count that out. No sign of MeTV in LA though.

Milwaukee no longer has an RTV affiliate after WITI dropped them for Antenna TV.

South Bend Indiana doesn't have RTV or Antenna TV. This TV & MeTV are carried on Wrigel stations.

Chicago is the only top 5 market (actual ranking is #3) that doesn't carry World from PBS

Hartford/New Haven doesn't have MeTV. I think RTV was available for a time on a low-power analog station. ThisTV is on WTXX-DT 20-2 of Waterbury/Hartford and Antenna TV is on WTIC-DT 61-2 of Hartford.

You apparently haven't checked recently. KFLA-LD is now at 12 kW on channel 52 and has pretty nice coverage of LA. Still maps to 8-1.

KVAT isn't currently on the air. And it's never been offered on any of the cable systems. Message from their website:

Due to technical difficulties, transmission of KVAT 17 has been temporaily suspended

All of you are so lucky, having those type of subchannels available OTA DTV. Here in San Antonio, TX, the subchannels of our local 'big three', (WOAI, KENS, KSAT), air spanish language channels, as if we didn't have enough of that already. However, the crap channels, KABB-29 and CW-35 each have one subchannel and use them for music video channels: CoolTV and some type of country music. I would love to have some type of retro channel airing old classic BW TV shows. I guess its much the same situation near the Quebec border, with the french language being so prevalent. Why waste money for TWC or STV when most of the same excrement is flinging thru the ether for free, excepting the cost of hardware and electrons.

A few months ago, it was on the air with test patterns. SiliconDust still shows it as being on the air, but is unable to acquire screenshots: http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/lineup_web/US:78710#lineup_2469370
