Largets DMAs in terms of Area

I was looking for this but can't find anything about it.

I was looking for the largest DMA in terms of AREA not population. I keep finding references to population.

I am assuming it has to be Alaska, cause what are there like 3 areas, Juneau, Fairbanks and Anchorage. So I guess I'd have to restrict it to the lower 48.

I know Utah is one market and NM is mostly one market. What about East of the Mississippi? Any idea what might be the biggest DMA in terms of area?

Atlanta is another large geographical market area east of the Mississippi. You basically have most of the northern third of Georgia, plus parts of the surrounding states along the Georgia border (North and South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama). Also, looking at a map I found, Nashville and Greensburg-Spartanburg-Ashville are very comparable in size to Atlanta, as is Lexington, Kentucky and Charleston-Huntington.

(Disclaimer: I don't know how entirely accurate these maps are, but this was the quickest I could find)

All in all, among the mainland states, you have Phoenix (northern and central Arizona, and extreme eastern Riverside County, California), Salt Lake City (all of Utah, plus the southeastern corner of Idaho, southwestern Wyoming, and northeastern Nevada), Denver (northern and central Colorado, south-central Wyoming, and most of western Nebraska), and Albuquerque-Santa Fe (as Mark mentioned) as the largest geographical areas.

Northern Michigan (Traverse City-Cadillac) also qualifies, which covers most of the northern Lower Peninsula (except Alpena) and the eastern Upper Peninsula.

Can we count the combined area of Paducah, KY/Harrisburg, IL/Cape Girardeau, MO? Yes, the last is west of the Mississippi, but the bulk of that market lies east of it. I know Paducah has their NBC affiliate, Harrisburg has their ABC affiliate while Cape Girardeau has their CBS and FOX affiliates.

Back west of the Mississippi, I am sure Great Falls MT is one of the largest--I figured that it measures about 350 miles by 180 miles. Bismark-Minot ND is also very sizable, covering about 2/3 of ND plus a few counties in MT and SD. East of the Mississppi. Greenville-Spartanburg-Asheville has to be one of the largest, covering a number of counties in three states...
