LARRY AND ERIC - 1 WEEK REVIEW

A

AtlBanker

Guest
I listened to the regular guys a few times this week. The show is less than impressive. Sounds like a lot of forced conversation. There is nothing natural about the flow at all. Both Larry and Eric are trying so hard to be funny. It comes across as desperation to make the show work, which it doesn't. The Bert Show sounds like a bunch of people who are genuinely having a good time and in turn so does the audience. Larry and Eric sound like they are stuck in a cell together making the best of it to collect a check. The show has no spark. Just two unhappy people trying to outwit each other with painful results.

They've been off the air for 15 months....Steve has been away from over 2 years. New studio, new surroundings, new bosses.... come on man. I think it was a very good first week.

I really enjoyed it.

I can't help but think that they are all playing a little safe for now. Once they getting the ratings the show will get edger - it will go straight to their heads.

AtlBanker being overly negative? No f-in way!

They sounded just fine, and they aren't forcing anything or changing how they've always done it. I had forgotten how well SSS fits in. Who knew how important it could be to have a dim bulb on a mic?

Come to think of it, this dynamic could work on Mayhem in the Ayem on 790, except Brisket owns the place and therefore the rest must be very careful as to when/how they rip on him.

i thought they sounded better this week (Part 3) than they did as Regular Guys Part 2. The Nazi actually sounded like he was having fun and not pi$$ed at Atlanta's Favorite Jew.

I agree 100%. Nothing better than someone starting a thread with an axe to grind. I did not hear any forced conversations. This week was better than and week of 2.0. I laughed alll week after 15 months of not laughing at all.

I thought week 1 back was awful. TRG Part 2 was bad but i still laughed some. I tuned in each morning just to give them a chance and didn't laugh once. To be totally honest I was bored out of my mind. I thought it was dry, stale, and uninteresting. I will not be back unless they pick up some new material. I think with the Giant Show starting to hit its stride and a new morning show about to launch on Dave, TRG part 3 is in for some serious trouble.

As far as SSS is concerned, there is nothing more pathetic than listening to a 40+ year old man talk about how he was hitting on some girl in her early 20's in a bar last night and pretending he was getting somewhere with her. No wonder Eagle dumped him. I'd rather listen to Bert and crew before i subject myself to TRG and SSS again, at least Bert can make me laugh in the morning.

Plus, I'm rather surprised Cumeless didn't do anything to them after they let an S-Bomb get over the air on Day 1 from a caller. Cumeless showed once again that it has no backbone.

If Southside was hitting on a girl he was not "pretending" to get somewhere with her.....I'll bet my last dime he was "getting somewhere." I don't think SSS is 40+ either but I don't know for certain......
I still don't get what all the hubub is about with the RG show. But I do give the Cloud credit for putting a morning show on the air which many people seem to like and want.
BTW - it is easier than you think to let the S-Bomb slip out OTA. It was their first day....let um' learn the switches and knobs.
I personally would have rather seen a Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction.
But that's just me.....

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about the Giant Show. I tried listening the first few weeks they were on, but just get bored and switch to another station... they just do not interest me, sound too much like every other "hahaha we wish we were as funny as we think we are" morning show you hear when you drive around the country. TRG have something about them them that just sets them apart for me.

It's their first week on the air... give them a chance to get back in the swing and get the bugs worked out. This past week has been the first time I have actually laughed on the way to work in a long time. They have regained this loyal, long time listener.

Here, here, RTibbs! Great first week back for Larry and Eric.

Honestly, they are the only thing I listen to in the morning. I think they did great, do some of you not realize how hard it is to do this kind of show everyday.

The first couple of weeks should be the easiest. Pull out some sure material that you know from past efforts will light up the lines and get the juices flowing just to get thing rolling. After a year I totally agree with you on keeping the show alive with new material is a tough job, but not after one week. The first week should not have that problem which it clearly did. It is a forced marriage between a couple that can't stand each other and can not be hidden no matter how hard they try.

In the first week I heard Ben the bunny man (and arch rival Bob called in for good measure), yesterday they had "Curtis Washington" on representing Hillary Clinton instead of McKinney which I thought the whole bit was hilarious. They did the F.U. line., and all the normal bits. I heard plenty of people calling welcoming them back. What is your basis for saying they can't stand each other? I'm sure no one forced them to do anything. If you don't like the show, don't listen to it...

It is a few guys hanging out rambling. The last thing I would call it is a 'Show'. It takes effort to create a show. Not guys being smug.

We get it already-- you don't like the show, fine. But you give yourself up when you try to make a comparison to the Bert Show. Do you think the two audiences (oe target demos I guess in radio-speak) have ANYTHING in common???

AMEN... what is this, a Bert Show listener that got a big head because they got a bigger stick? ;D

I agree that the Bert Show and the regular guys can not be compared. The Bert Show has a happy feel about it. They genuinely enjoy each others company. They like each other and it comes across on the air. I bet they all hang out on weekends. They are happy and in turns makes the audience happy. The regular guys have a dirty feel about them. A smugness. They don't connect. I gave them a try. Like I said earlier, they need a spark. Larry needs to run the thing and Eric needs to say as little as possible. He has turned into an absolute bore. He has a bitterness. New blood is needed. These guys have run their course together. Larry has the basics and is trying his best, but Eric doesn't jell. Smug, smug and more smug defines Eric.

I expect them to start a new bit called, "Why the Regular Guys Hate Each Other" (and they would do it, too). They could get all their material from this thread. ;D
