Larry Kay passes

Larry Kay, former announcer for WGET, WPDC and WNZT passed away Monday at Lancaster Hospital from a heart attack. He was still active in radio, doing production part-time for WOYK and WPDC. He was a great guy and a hard worker, leaving behind a wife of many years and an adult daughter. He was an organ donor, there is no viewing and no service scheduled.

Holy Hell! I haven't heard about Larry for years, ever since he left WGET and went to work at WNZT. I worked with him at WGET and always used to ask him why he drove from Mt. Joy to Gettysburg every day to work(doing the morning show no less)....he said "cause I love radio and I need to feed my family"....

Larry was a good guy (if not a little wacky sometimes)....my condolences to his family.

Geez---looks like we're off to a bad start for 2008--first Torre and now Larry Kay. I remember he was on the air the day I went for an interview for WGET's 6p-midnite in 1981, on the tour with manager Dick Selby. They were still running 16" transcription turntables and other ancient gear. The 9 hour weekend shift (Saturday 3p-12midnite!) made me say no--that and a nicely timed offer from WHYL for PM Drive.

I am VERY sorry to hear about this. Living in York, I didn't see his passing. I worked with Larry Kay during his 1580 WNZ-----T years. 1987-1993. He was great fun, and he and I had many laughs at the expense of "Lazy Lou" the so-called Sales Manager of WNZ-T.

So many have passed away, including my own father, whom worked in radio in 1999.

RIP Larry....... you were fun.
