Larry King returns to radio

Minor issue: the story is worded in a way that makes it sound like Larry King has been absent from radio for 60 years. Are they really trying to say he started in radio 60 years ago? I thought he was a big deal on radio 40 years ago... doing over-night radio sometime in that era. Was he on Mutual?

Yes, he was on Mutual beginning in themid 1970s replacing original host Herb Jepko. King was the one who helped keep Mutual going before taking leave in favor of CNN in the late 1980s.

Did the Mutual gig actually start maybe sometime in the 1960s? I am thinking back on where I was and what I was doing, and my feeble little mind wants to think I had an awareness of Larry King in the late 60s.... but maybe my head is playing tricks on me....... again!

According to Wikipedia (which may or may not be 100% accurate):

"In 1978, King went national, inheriting the nightly talk show slot on the Mutual Broadcasting System, broadcast coast-to-coast, that had been "Long John" Nebel's until his death, and had been pioneered by Herb Jepko."

Has anyone heard these? I caught one in the IMUS Show the other day. Larry starts off dropping the name Frank Sinatra (no surprise there) and sets up a joke that he says killed Frank. The joke sucked, Larry sucked, and I have to wonder what brain came up with this stupid feature?? Larry King and IMUS....just what you need for younger demos!! Brilliant!
