Larry Krueger On KFRC A's Broadcast?

Did anyone catch Larry Krueger (of "brain-dead Caribbean hitter" fame) on KFRC/610 during the A's pre-game show on Sunday?

No -- was he interviewing someone or being interviewed himself? Hope he lands a gig (was that a tryout, perhaps?). He got a raw deal IMHO.

Agreed. The rumors I'm hearing include Krueger going over to Clear Channel/SF, where Bob Agnew (his longtime boss) has been reportedly given the additional title of "Sports Branding Manager" for CC's West Coast stations.

Funny ... CC doesn't currently have a sports station in the Bay Area.

Yet.

Keep in mind that CC's contract with Air America is up in about a month ... as is the contract between the Oakland A's and Infinity. Plus, the San Jose Sharks are on CC-operated stations in the Southbay, and Team Teal would *love* to be on a "San Francisco station" ... plus CC already has Stanford football and basketball, and USF hoops (on both KNEW and KQKE). And Krueger would be terrific counter-programming to "The Razor and Mr. T."

Those alone (Sharks, Stanford, USF) would make a good start toward turning KQKE into a Sports Talk station. Add the A's, and you've got a big-league sports talker run by a guy with experience at making money with the format in this market.

(Read the following out loud, in your deeeeepest voice, with some reverb and the sound of walls crashing down:)

"960 The Quake -- Sports That'll Knock You Out Of Your Seat!"

I have this image of corporate execs sitting around a conference table. The boss says - "Our format on (blank station) is getting mediocre ratings. That's just not acceptable, people. Let's discuss ideas for new formats that will REALLY send the station down the crapper..."

Air America signed a 3 year deal with KQKE. Besides would they take KABL-AM & turn and reformat it again?

A.A.R. pays clear channel to place programming on KQKE. Will continue until A.A.R. goes broke.

Wouldn't bet on that. It's a tenuous situation.

You are incorrect. AAR programming is barter.

The only station they currently buy time on is WLIB in New York.<P ID="signature">______________

Sorry to question your veracity, but AAR pays CC a lot of money, in cash, to clear on KQKE. It is not, and never was, barter. The above post is correct, it will continue until they go broke...which may not be long, as they are begging for money from listeners on their website.

yes, to be precise, $250,000/mo. for KQKE, not counting L.A. CC station

Look at it this way: if they are actually paying $250,000 a month, that's about $350 an hour (for 24 hours) over a period of a month.

I was debating putting the word "only" in front of "$350 an hour" but decided not to.

BOSS HANDLE

Just a question. Since your handle implies "Boss Radio" DJ.
Did you work for a real Drake station? Or is this simply
a handle?

Do you manufacture Collins radios?

You avoided answering the question, obviously you're
not what you call yourself. By the way Collins is
my last name.

I didn't answer your question because you placed it in the middle of a thread that has nothing to do with who I am.

I use the term "BossRadio" in my handle because I've been a fan of the genre for forty years, and I'm an active collector of Boss-related memoribilia; I didn't think that there was a requirement to have actually worked at a Boss station to use the term in my handle ("obviously you're not what you call yourself").

Virtually everyone who is a regular on this board knows who I am; if you don't, all you have to do is click through to one of the links at the bottom of my posts and you'll find out. You can even get a look at my ugly-*ss face if it's that important to you.
