Larry Lujack

Has anybody heard any recent updates regarding when Larry Lujack will be on that "Hit Parade Radio?"
Last I heard it was suppose to start up in September. Well it's September.

It would seem that some rumors of station affiliation would start to occur. However, I have not read or heard of what stations will be carrying HPR.

I would bet, given the level of competition in that format, coupled with the shortage of advertiser support, it will be a very tough sell.

Oh, dear.

I am a big Uncle Lar fan ... but not this way. His "demo" sounds, to me, forced and the "simulated" air check is in need of processing and some reverb, IMHO.

On the "stream" you'll hear gold ditties like the ALBUM version of 'Boogie Oogie Oogie'. And, of course 'Soul & Inspiration' by the Righteous Bros into -- 'Chances Are' by Johnny Mathis. Then, into 'Brandy' by the Looking Glass. The Beatles 'I Feel Fine' into 'Babe' by Styx."What A Fool Believes" into "Stranger On the Shore." This is a stunt, right?

John Rook is a legend and a commendable rare talent in this business. His WLS days produced the greatest radio "war" ever, but this is not Musicradio WLS - The Big 89.

Then, back to the "simulated" Hit Parade Radio aircheck, there's Wink Martindale talking up the entire intro to 'Someday We'll Be Together' by the Supremes. Not one of six posts -- the entire intro. I like the Winker, but his Top 40 days ended at WHBQ in Memphis. "Music of Your Life" -- perfect. But not this.

Even Lyle Dean, who sounds as good as ever doing news on this demo ... but the underscore jingle is not so good. Nor are the jingles, for that matter.

This should be intriguing. In the scheme of tough to sell a 50+ demo, this is going to be an interesting one both from a network and affiliate viewpoint.

Maybe Lar' will convince Mr. Rook to bring back Snotty Lil' Tommy and they bring back "Animal Stories." Now that would be worth a listen, honestly. I would like to see this idea to take off, but I hope there's some work going on behind the scenes till launch day.

According to the "4 to 6 weeks" notice - that would mean that Steve Rivers and company have two week still launch. Maybe there's hope.

...I personally disagree. Got more chuckles out of Lujack's heel raps here than any given hour of his WUBT or 1690 shows. The only thing that would really make it better would be if Lar had the nerve to dredge up his 1974 Klunk Letter of the Day slam about how wretched Martindale's "Deck of Cards" was ;-) ...

I just listened... If you pitch it up by 1.5% and if Larry would sound more like Larry live than Larry doing a taped demo, then maybe.... Wink was 50's stuff... Really does not sound like a jock playing the Supremes... And without local stations having their ability to use their moniker, many would play these tunes on their BSI/Symian and pass on the network.. Lyle sounded pretty darn good!

Gotta disagree. His 1690 gig was good enough, but most people couldn't hear it cause the signal was so lousy.
Agree with you on "UBT".

Lar is just a has-been, collecting the money phoning it in. No more - no less. His days are done. If I were him...I'd do the very same thing.

Yawn

Alot of people want to hear him even though you don't.

They've gotta let Lujack be himself & having Tommy would help, but would their act play outside of Chicago?
Good question. Radio geekazoids like me all over the east coast (and most of the people who post here) would be up for it, but the question is, on what station? Some kilowatt rimshots on AM and Class A FMs? Not good.
