Larry Mendte Laments Lack Of Local Talk In Philly

Interesting timing for Larry Mendte's opinion. WPHT, the only game in town, lost half its audience after baseball season ended. Does that mean that the format is already saturated, or does that mean that someone else could capture the audience that WPHT is failing to capture?

A thread on the news/talk board says right-wing talk radio "works" in most markets. Maybe, those numbers means ideological talk doesn't work all that well, at least not any more. Maybe it means syndicated hosts stridently repeating party-line talk points doesn't work. Maybe many people are just tired of this approach. The remaining audience has gotten older and less attractive to advertisers. Maybe this means a new approach to talk radio is needed to keep the format alive. But that means taking chances and spending money and radio managements are averse to doing either.
