Larry Norton living in Florida

Alan Pergament has info on his blog about how Norton is essentially living in FLA full time now.

There's also details about how Rob Lederman has cut down his duties on the morning show.

Most of us here know this, but I beat there are a number of 97 Rock listeners who do not realize that Norton does his job most of the year from Florida.

Norton does return to Buffalo for a few months during the summer to do his show from here.

Will this work in the long-term? And if Lederman isn't on the air that much anymore and Russ Burton left for a sales gig across town, what is the future forecast for 96.9 FM's morning zoo team?

Advertisers must be OK with Larry broadcasting from FLA. I still hear plenty of local spots on their morning show.

Apparently Larry doesn't have to do any meet-and-greets with new clients or make quick stops to existing clients after his on-air shift to make sure everyone is happy.

I'm pretty sure most people interested in advertising on 97-Rock know who Larry Norton is, and know his product. I doubt that having Larry "drop by" would make or break a deal.

Pergament, always on the cutting edge, didn't know until recently that Norton was phoning it in. It hasn't been the "zoo team" in years, but it is getting tired and one senses that the routine has taken its toll on Norton and Lederman. Russ Burton held the show together, especially with Norton being in Florida. Now that Burton's gone to Town Square, it seems Lederman has thrown in the towel ("another project for the station" not withstanding) and would prefer to devote more time to his family, comedy career and night club. Norton's detachment, Burton's departure, and Lederman's disinterest might lead Cumulus to take a different course when it takes control, perhaps as soon as the end of this month. The 97 Rock morning show at one time owned Men 25-54, consistently crossing the finish line in first place. In the last three books (Spring '11, Winter '11, Fall '10), 97 Rock has placed second to WGR, with Howard Simon and Always Right Jeremy White leading by at least three shares.

Today I heard an INCREDIBLE, TRULY INCREDIBLE story about Larry Norton and his charitable efforts.

Without naming names of the family who was able to benefit from Larry's generosity and the on-air time of 96.9 FM, congrats to Larry for doing the right thing and going above and beyond.

It may end up being part of his swan song as one of the most recognizable voices of WNY radio in AM drive in the past 30 years, so it if is, nice work Larry!

If not, keep plugging away! We miss you when you are not living and breathing the air of B-U-F-F-A-L-O.
