Larry Passes Away

That is the news I dreaded to see....I recently e-mailed with Larry and he was in good spirits, and I thought he was gonna beat this cancer......I had the honor of knowing Larry from the time before I was a teenager---always cheerful, a great smile and those incredible pipes.....there was a time after high school in the 70's when I was working two stations at once in Augusta, Georgia....I used my name "JJ Hemingway" on one station and on the other I chose the name "Larry Nelson," so for around a year Larry Nelson was alive and well on the airwaves of the "Peach State." Larry represented true personality radio, as did other great talents like Bob Harwick, Jack Morton, Jim Blossey, Jim French, Lan Roberts, Emperor Smith, Gary Lockwood and the list goes on and on......

Larry Nelson---definitely in my broadcast hall of fame....

Bless You Larry...

Maybe I should change my moniker - Larry Nelson was a DEFINATE Original.....

We miss you Larry Nelson....you were an inspiration....

Larry's service was fantastic. A great way to remember him with lots of good, funny stories. Lar would have loved it!

Former KOMO news reporter Patti Payne got off the line of the day when she remarked after a tearful former KOMO GM Rich Robertson left the podium: "I don't know what Rich is crying about. He fired half the people in this room!" Followed by a big laugh! Way to go P-squared!

Kudos to Shirley Thom she delivered a very nice summary of both Larry's funeral and also a couple of very personal, moving stories of her working with Larry to a roomful of people at the PSRBA luncheon Tuesday. She also let everyone know of larrybnelson.com a dedicated web site to Larry. Lots there to see for his fans.
