larry the cable guy has his own show on the history channel

on the history channel is a show called "only in america" starring larry the cable guy.out of currosity , much like watching a train wreck, i watched an episode.

he was particating in a civil war recreation,he went to the motorcycle event in sturges and was in the observation room in a las vegas casino where they look for cheaters and any other troublemakers.

it was light on facts and long on larry`s stupid "humor".

is this the kind of program on the history channel shown these days?what happened to real history on the history channel instead of shows like this , and the show about truck drivers on ice?

"Only in America" debuted back in February -- personally, as long as it has some historical element, I wouldn't mind. Besides, it's a nice change of pace from the usual "Modern Marvels" and "Hitler Channel" programs many of us are accustomed to.

Indeed, this is not news. In fact, one might argue that the real news is the fact that the show is still on the air! But as long as it can appeal to those younger demos, it probably won't go anywhere anytime soon.

I dumped cable two years ago just because of junk programming like this.

Turns out I was clairvoyant! ;D

The swirling continues.......

It's what it is--light entertainment, a little slice-of-life piece of Americana reminiscent of the kind of human interest features the late Charles Kuralt used to do for CBS, only even more light-hearted and humorous. It works on its own level, and not meant to be taken the same way as the serious stuff like this week's Gettysburg program, or the Lee vs. Grant documentary.

Most of the real history shows moved to the "History International" channel. Despite the name it is available in the United States and does not air that much international programming anymore. Right now it is my favorite cable channel.

History has a branding/identity issue. They do try to sell the non-history shows as "history made every day". However, IRT, American Pickers, Pawn Stars, American Restoration, Larry The Cable Guy, all are a hard sell to connect to history. Maybe viewers really don't care what you call yourself and simply connect with the shows. Possibly a name like "American Pie' or something that indicates uniqueness to America and Americans would be a better choice. That way the real history programs could also fall under that umbrella.

Not so much "clairvoyant." More like "reticent" because it took ya so long. The swirling started way before 2009. :)

Bring back Lawrence Welk...and you kids get off my lawn.

Now, where are my bran muffins?

The History Channel and its companion History International were the last two all-cable services I watched.....waiting patiently for a shake out of the other channels. When that didn't happen I bailed. Had to wait until my contract expired. :(

it is not an old foggy refusal to accept the new when it comes to expecting non-dumbed down shows that are approperate to the history channel.that applies to to larry the cable guy ,who should be on the comedy channel not the history channel, and shows like ice truck drivers which has nothoing to do with history.

it is a matter of the programing on a channel being approprate to what the channel is.

GIT-R-DUN!

I don't have cable (in the sense of channels other than TV Guide Channel, WGN and QVC), but I'd take him however I could get him.

Now that there's funny I don't care who you are.

This show is a guaranteed tune-out for this History Channel viewer. It's the History Channel whoring itself out to the lowest common denominator. It's not what I got to History to watch and it chases me away almost as quickly as one of those dreadful Kars 4 Kids ads.

I'm wagering they'll survive the loss. :D

Maybe not. My viewing patterns are pretty typical for a History Channel viewer. And I don't see this show attracting 20-somethings either. It probably does do well in the baby-daddy trailer park demo, but there's only so much money to be made from advertising Old Milwaukee and ambulance chasers.

You wager may not be as safe as you think..... ;D

The difference being I know enough to base a bet on actual, what are those called...oh yeah, facts, as opposed to some imagined notion of representing the "typical" viewer and making faulty assumptions about the rest of the actual audience. ;)

Name those facts then, rather than simply making childish ad hominem attacks. Show us how fantastically successful this train wreck is, which is why it keeps being moved around to follow their most popular shows. And that's a sure recipe for success, just ask NBC about how well Joey did using that tactic.

Reminds me of trying to fob off tuna salad on people by making it part of other meals while disguising it as some gourmet dish. Yet there are still many leftovers around. Such is the case with the GIT-R-DONE refugee from a trailer park. His show cheapens the entire channel.

Now why would they move a show around. Why...why...why. Oh, right, because it's been publicly reported that it improved its time period ratings more than 85%. Average of more than two and a half million viewers, a big number for History.

Oh, those pesky little facts. How they get in the way of another bran-muffin-deprivation rant.
