Larry Wachs In News Talk Edge

Interesting read.
I wonder if you really do lose meters when a host takes calls. I'm not much on talk radio but I do occasionally listen to Boortz.
I generally hate the caller segments.....it is rare to hear listener conversation which is interesting. I'm sure WSB researches the
paa-geebus out of the meter data - I suppose if everyone felt the same then there would be no callers on air.....
I like Dave Ramsey. I like what he teaches. But how many times can you stand to listen to a woman who makes $18,000/year who has $80,000 in credit card debt.....and they need Dave Ramsey to tell them what they are doing wrong!
There are PDs who are constantly harrassing the talent to keep breaks/segments short. But you have to distinguish between the "jocks" and "personalities." The quintessential conversationalist.....those with a true knack for chatter (personalities)....should be allowed to entertain. Allow them the freedom to follow their instincts. "Jocks" should just keep pushing the button to make the next song play with minimum talk in between.
What we need most of all is programmers who can tell the difference between a "jock" and a "personality!"

Interesting. I listen less now. I always liked call from the general public which is no longer as prominent. Does these mean they don;t lode meteres when they play Hollywood Squares. It's not a bad bit but is just too long.

@taylor: Dave Ramsey just happened to be a part of that same newsletter that week... Randall's right, he's a genius! "I'M DEBT FREE!"

You're both correct! Anyone who can turn their schtick into a multi-million $$$ enterprise has my admiration and respect.
But regarding the typical talk show caller (Dave Ramsey, Boortz, Rush - take your pick)......am I right or am I right??
