Las Vegas has so much potential...maybe the new owners of KOAS will kick some ass. I understand that one of the principles was a former GM at The Wave in Los Angeles. If you haven't heard it, it is a sweet sounding light jazz station. A station like the Wave would certainly upset Sunnys position as well as KJUL. Just my opinion. Ok, start the rant groopies.

KJUL should change their format to compete more with Sunny.

Las Vegas Radio DOES NOT SUCK. Take a look at larger markets, like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis. Whatever problems that are in Las Vegas are the same in the larger markets. It's not the jocks, it's not the management, it is just one of those things that happen.

In the 80's it was the deep voiced robuts, radio sucked then. Now there are more personality driven jocks, radio does not suck now.

Whitefish is in Montana, but I otherwise agree. I've said it before myself - we had better sounding radio stations in market #250-something in Mississippi than we have here. But radio stations are owned and run by bean counters now, not radio people.

what sucks is that radio doesn't wanna pay for good talent anymore. nor do they want to take the time to cultivate new talent. times surely have changed.

Then PLEASE move, there are many people here who like this market.....is it Perfect?....NO, but we don't spend our days complaining how "we" can do it better.
"We" do our best to move up and make this market better. Being bitter and Angry(M O'Neil) does nothing to make things better! Go work someplace where people want your thoughts.....'cause NO ONE wants them here!

Amen, VG!

I love the job I do (and I'm hardly a card reader!), and I hear some very good radio here in town. Bitter unemployed or under-employed has beens in this market seem only to complain. If you don't like it, leave. Just don't shoot down the industry because it's been bad to you.

well Jr.
If you look at my post above in this thread I don't think you will see any anger but I sure do see yours. The right to speak out is called free speach and judging from this thread , and I didn't start it, there seems to be many whom believe it should be a lot better than it is. Your cheap shots at me are looking like what a jealous little boy or a groopie might do so if the shoe fits.... oh and by the way I'm not bitter why would I be I'm retired after 30 years in Los Angeles Radio and V/O, so what are your credentials? eh?

What are those, so-called credentials? Honestly, I have NEVER heard of you!!! You do seem bitter, old and grumpy...what did they cancel the $7.99 senior steak special at Sizzler?

By the way, Mr. Vegas Sucks...I'm from L-A so I must be good...The spelling would be GROUPIE...as in the word "group." It's called spellcheck buddy...

Furthermore, President Bush doesn't care about Vegas radio.

Look it up Jr. you've got a computer....Wow what jealousy!!!

I never heard of you either and sure as hell wouldn't use the name lvradiovet what a fuchin joke. I hate the little butt heads who hide behind a stupid screen name like a wuss and slam others whom you don't agree with and by the way for Mike O' up your spell check. calling yourself lvradiovet means you might have been in vegas for a while. That means you don't have the talent to move up. You want respect grow up and maybe you will learn. O'neil spent 30 years in Los Angeles radio and at least 20 years doing national v/o and promo v/o for NBC, CBS, Fox and ABC so check your attitude. I don't always agree with him but I have lotsa respect for him. Also your old man jokes are crap, he looks like he is still a kid and as a former Navy Seal I don't think he has lost much with age just his patience with little brains like yourself.
O'Neil get back to the L.A. board where you belong and away from this petty crap.

Yes, Mike please go back to the LA radio board so you can cease with the endless LV Radio sucks rants. It's a good market with plenty of talent. The market is comparable to markets much larger. There are many that would contend that LA is a s*** radio market. In my opinion, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, and exluding some stations in the Bay, SF are crappy radio markets.

I'm not impressed by old, bitter, former radio guys who have nothing better to do than bitch about local radio. Offer some ideas. Offer some solutions. But, don't come on here day in and day out writing that what I do, and what other EMPLOYED radio guys do in this market, is crap. What could be more insulting. If you're going to complain at least have a gig in radio on a radio station.

Pipes...yeah I've been here for a few years. I like Vegas. I have a nice house. I make good money. My kids have been in school here for years. The thought that market-size makes a career is dinosaur thinking. You marry a market, regardless of size and do good radio. I have no present plans to ever leave the market. I'd take Vegas any day over most cities.

Then again Pipes and ONeil you're in this market too...

> Could not agree more, lvradiovet. Well said. Oh, and there is absolute proof that Mike did work in the Las Vegas market .... although he has time and time denied it.

You were an abused child. Who started the thread? did you even read it?
Jealousy is a bitch

You must be on drugs. Never have denied working (if you can call it that) a little part time in vegas. Found it boring. Also found more ego in the vegas market than I ever encountered in L.A. Keep hiding behind a screen name. You are the same person with multiple screen names, how creative....
