Last day for oldies 106.1

There have been some promos on Oldies106.1 referring that the Oldies will now be heard on 1150WAVO.

Thankfully, the legendary Ken Conrad will be there.

This is a gradual transition, as some listeners have heard about this, as others have read about it in the Charlotte Observer.

There could be stunting or a sudden flip.

No matter what - whether it's a gradual transition, stunting, or a sudden flip - it's indescribable.

The move to oldies was too late. After Magic 96 changed format I know quite a few people who invested in satellite radio. The oldies format didn't have enough time to take hold I doubt very many people even know about the change. Add to that the music was not tailored for the market.

I would have much rather heard the current standards format that is now on WEGO/WAVO. It might have worked better than "Timeless Classics".

The question is will 106.1 garner sufficient ratings with a Spanish language format? I have a feeling it won't. Instead it will just dilute the available audience even more.

Isn't it true 106.1 is being leased out? How long is the lease?

I really feel sad about this switch and hope another stations attemps oldies again. You are right about how 106.1 approached it. They should have switched to oldies in 2004 when 96.1 ended it's oldies format.

I did lisin some of oldies106.1 streaming the night before the flip. From what I understand they did not do any special goodbyes. They should have give at least did a special goodbye at least for this station.

nobody cares about WOLS or old Magic 96..they both sucked..whoever thought going Spanish would increase $$$$ or Arbitron ratings is an idiot..won't b long til they change formats again or just sell the station

They did, on the morning show. Sort of.

It's like the story of the man who kept switching his girfriend's turtle, replacing each one with a slightly larger one each day until finally she noticed how fast it was growing.

The morning show never caught up with the satellite format. It sounded good, but on days when they did the satellite format in the morning, GARBAGE!

They'd better not drop the standards on WAVO. They sounded so good. I haven't turned it on lately, but it looks like I'd better.

If they wanted to do junk, they could start out doing junk. They would never succeed with those worthless signals. Why not just do something no one will listen to anyway?

Hang in there, you guys - if a reversal of sorts can happen in New York :)....just keep campaigning down there 'cos you never, never know...

Probably when Norbert Sanchez signs a purchase contract for the station.

Later . . . .

I remember reading an article that said there was an "option to buy" in the contract.

Today there are alternatives to Oldies formatted stations. My iPod and computer have more oldies than most radio stations ever play, the only thing missing are personalities and that feeling of being connected. It's not like there are new oldies coming out.

There are other formats which do have new music coming out that I would like to hear radio stations adopt. Unfortunately I'm in the minority on that. The mass audience dictates what will be heard (as long as they are under 50 that is!)

Is 102.3 still doing La Raza? I couldn't pick it up the other night.

I did hear it right after the change but WOLS is nonexistent at home. I like the accordions and tubas.

The songs are old, but they're not oldies. A few could be part of an oldies format, though very few woud make it on today's "classic hits" version of the format.

And Ken is on both mornings and afternoons. Still no one at midday.
