I was going through boxes of tapes and ran across the last hour of KAAM with Jim Thomas and the cast. It's recorded off the air in stereo. If anyone's interested I'll post in in the usenet airchecks group.

I'd be interested to hear it. How do you get to the usenet airchecks group?

Since no one will answer you on the usenet location here is another option and a great way for anyone to share airchecks. Go to savefile.com and check out the free service. You simply upload a file to savefile.com and they give you a URL that you can give to others to retrieve the file. Give this a try:

KAAM October 1983: http://www.savefile.com/files/3558477

It's not the end of the format, but it's a pretty good aircheck. If anyone else has an aircheck that comes up in discussion, it can be shared in this manner.

Re: HERE is a KAAM aircheck (on savefile.com)

Thanks for the tip on SaveFile. I will post there too.

You may have downloaded the wrong one. This one is not Jim Thomas, but Chris Allen (who sounds like a friendly Russ Martin, if you can audially picture that; Russ WAS working there then, under his own name I guess) and dated 10/25/1983 (the news clip about the Grenada invasion gave away the exact date.) I don't think KAAM at 1310 ended until 1993, though the pop oldies gave way to big bands/great singers in 1986-ish.

But THANK YOU for loading that up. Great piece of the good old Top 40 approach applied to oldies. I haven't heard that kind of energy on Dallas radio in a very long time.

Re: Usenet Group Name

Thanks for posting this. My ISP has banned all the Mp3 based newsgroups.

Always sad to hear airchecks of a (great) station's last hours. At least the Jocks were allowed to have fun and thank the listeners. Compare that to KEGL's last day where they just pulled the plug ASAP.

What were KAAM's ratings as a oldies station before the switch?

The file http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=8306253
is really 1310 KAAM in their last hour of oldies. Jim Thomas
is one of the hosts. Chris Allen appears among others.
