Last NBC Conan tonight

I find it somewhat interesting that two NBC talk shows have ended this week with hardly any fanfare. Of course, NBC is in the position of not wanting to call attention to their late night fiasco. Regardless, Jay Leno's last prime-time show happened Tuesday, and Conan's last Tonight Show is tonight (Thursday), with a repeat of 8/5/09.

Has there ever been a time when two high-profile shows on one network have disappeared during the same week?

And with so little fanfare?

History in the making, but not the kind of history NBC wants.

Yeah that would have been nice, or even his first show, but the reality is NBC doesn't want to call any attention to this, they just want it to go away.

At least the final airing had a memorable moment with the wax figures being shot out of the cannon and one of their heads being smashed to bits.

Let's face it. He had years to prepare for the Tonight Show and the expectations from NBC was just too high to reach in this short amount of time. I think he's much better off leaving NBC, which is what should have happened last year. His brand of comedy definitely belongs on Fox or on a cable network, rather than being toned down for the Tonight Show.

I think it totally sucks that Conan is completely gone. I didn't really tune in much for the first 10 years that he was on. But I started watching the show a lot starting in 2004 and I really grew to like it.

I keep thinking that NBC was trying to reverse their mistake though. First push Conan back to midnight..... and then ultimately push him back to 12:35 again and just act like nothing ever happened. I think that's what NBC was trying to do.... which is why I believe Conan chose to leave. He saw the handwriting on the wall. He didn't want to keep getting pushed around.

Oh well.... it's over. Conan deserves to be back on TV and I hope that it happens Sooner rather than Later.

With the way this all went down, I found it odd that NBC would continue airing reruns of Conan after his final taping three weeks ago. But I guess they had to fill the timeslot with something.

Talk about a perfect opportunity to open the archives and pull out some old Carson shows. Now that could get NBC some well-needed positive press!

On the surface, maybe a good idea. But I'm not sure NBC even owns the rights to the old Carson library.

Beyond that, it wouldn't do Leno any good by showing old Carson. Just bring up old wounds.

Here's a question: When does NBC start promoting Leno's return to Tonight?

I would guess now is too soon, but at some point they will need to put it out there. My bet is around the closing Olympic cermonies, or a couple days before.
