George Noory took a call from one of the most deranged sounding listeners I've heard. Don't remember the name but the ranting and raving was rediculous enough to have sounded staged. Anyway, the end came when the caller took a low shot at former host Mike Siegel. George Noory became real angry at that point and defended Siegel to the point of possibly banning the caller in the future. I remember Siegel as being named the " heir apparent " of C2C by the on/off retiring Art Bell. I had stopped listening for a while around the transition of Siegel to Noory.
I'm just asking why did Mike Siegel leave C2C? Quit? Pushed out? Weak ratings?

Good question, but I'm not sure it really mattters. Neither Noory, Siegel, Punnett, and others, like Barbara Simpson and Hilly Rose have been able to fill Art Bell's shoes.

Didn't Art Bell leave for the year 2000 and he came back in early 2001? And during that time, his replacement was Siegel, yes? Punnett was a full-time host for a while there too. Before Siegel, as I recall.

Now, it's Noory's program, with Punnett doing the weekend gig. And what's funny about Punnett is that he took over for the bland Barbara Simpson---and Punnett is by no means any less bland to the listening ear than she was!

I have an even better question for all of the C2C fans out there.....

Way back, in late 1996, who was the nutty guy who came on Art Bell's show and spoke at length about an "unidentified flying object" following the comet Hale-Bopp? This guy had Art Bell fooled---BIG-TIME!! It wasn't until sometime afterward that it became obvious to Art Bell (and his millions of faithful listeners) that there was no spaceship following Hale-Bopp....and that the guy who said there was was full of crap. Not surprisingly, Art Bell was soooo embarrassed he never had the guy on his show ever again! And no, it wasn't that remote viewer guy "Major Ed Dames", it was somebody else.

It's been so long ago since that happened, that I just can't think of that quack's name off the top of my head, damn it!

I sure hope that somebody out there remembers that show and remembers that guy's name! That particular show was a "classic", let me tell ya!

Yes, you're right. Art Bell indeed has a voice for night radio. I don't remember the episode you're referring to, but more recently there was the incident featuring The Amazing Kreskin. Kreskin foretold of a UFO sighting that would be the most spectacular in history. He said that the craft would be close enough to see details. The event was to have been in the vicinity of the Silverton hotel/casino in Las Vegas. So a whole group of UFO watchers packed up their RV's and made their way to the site. They came frome different states. Everyone had their cameras and equipment set up. When the UFO's didn't appear, needless to say everyone was upset. Art Bell had Kreskin on the following night and grilled him about what happened. The outcome was that Art Bell accused Kreskin of self promotion and said " As long as I'm host of this show, you Kreskin are BANNED, BANNED, BANNED! " And the funny thing was that Kreskin didn't put up much of a fight!

In internet lingo, Art Bell and those faithful watchers were SKOOLED....SERVED....and OWN3D.

I was laughing my head off. I know it's not nice to laugh at people's mis fortune, but people.....if the guest is very vague in his answers or answers in doubletalk, then maybe he/she isn't that knowledgeable to begin with. Like the ZETA lady. " Zeta talk here.......blah...blah....blah....blah....end of Zeta talk ". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Barbaras's not bland at all on her own show (http://www.ksfo560.com), she's a real firebrand, if you like conservative talk...

I liked Siegel. IMO, he was the best host of the lot.

Wasn't it Heaven's Gate suicide cult founder Marshall "Do" Applewhite?

Well, politics aside.....I just felt like back when Barbara Simpson was doing C2C weekends she just wasn't a very good fit for that show.

I'm sure that nowadays she's sticking exclusively to what she does best. And good for her!

Re: Art Bell Retires Soon?

Has he found a retirement spot on Mars or on the Moon?

Maybe some of his friends from neighboring planets will drop in once in a while?

Is he going to take short vacations to area 54 or whatever they call that spot in New Mexico that gets visits from his friends?

I hate to tell you this Art, but we in the Human Race are in this universe all by ourselves. Does that make you lonesome? If it does, I guess you can rent Men In Black and you might feel better.
______________

Area 51 is in Nevada, just NE of Vegas.

And you have seemed to wrap up one of the most debated questions in human history.
What do you have to back up this claim?

WOW can you say "taking his show too literally"?? DO you really think Art beleives all fo this, or do you think he does the show for entertainment purposes?

Re: Art Bell Retires Soon?

I heard Art Bell say once that he DOESN'T believe all the stuff on his how. He does, however, let all these nutty guests have their say.
______________

Re: Art Bell Retires Soon?

I am just taking what he says at face value. It is a shame that too many people take this stuff seriously and a few devote too much time to this fantasy world and believe that it is real.

Re: Art Bell Retires Soon?

Though the Bible does not address the issue of intelligent creatures in other worlds, Biblical doctrine would have to be molded and bent severely to allow for intelligent created beings outside of this world.

From doctrine, we know;

that they would be sinners
that they would be condemned to Hell as a result of their sins.
that Jesus had one incarnation and it was in Israel
that they would have to believe in Jesus to be saved, but that God would be able to bring them to belief if they were out there.

All of this is not impossible, but it seems too remote to be a possibility.

C2C lost ratings and affiliates during Seigel's reign. He came to the show, personally choses by Art Bell. The problem with a program like Coast to Coast is that you have to really be in to it. Siege had a hesitation, for lack of a better term. Often times he would badger his guests instead of letting them present their whacked out points of view, where as Art would give his little chuckle and shoot off a question which sometimes made the guest look foolish, other times a Genius. Siegel never mastered this.
Nobody will ever replace Art, even Noory has stated this on more than one occasion.
Premiere more or less asked Art to come back to the show, and Seigal was obviously bothered/hurt by this. Siegel gave what he thought was a valiant effort. I found it interesting that for the longest time, any references to Siegel were avoided. I suspect Premiere bought out his contract and everybody was told to keep quiet until it expired. Standard practice.

Art Bell doesn't really have many opinions. If you listen closely, he lets his guest paint a picture, and then entertains the captive audience by asking deliberate questions. One might equate him to a Shady Used Car Salesmen, but in a positive manner. Art would probably be the first to admit that he doesn't believe half the stuff on the air, but to him the important thing is having a forum for these ideas to get out there. An alternative media in the truest sense of the word. Because the show is on at night, it's more fun to tell ghost stories, which is why you get all the conspiracy, aliens and creepy stuff.
Art has a knack for riding a topic, and keeping a legion of 'experts' on hand for a Shuttle landing or the sort.
Edited by BoardmanDJ on 08/31/05 05:47 AM.

Re: Art Bell Retires Soon?

Damnations! Never get tired of the "Art Bell lives in a UFO" jokes from the camaro and beer can types. You don't listen to the show so you say garbage that doesn't mean anything.

Art covered supernatural stuff, because Rush already covered politics and Laura snagged the radio version of "Springer". So what the hell else is he to do? Another republicans suck, democrats suck knock off?

According to some, Jesus has visited other worlds so he can tell them all the good news that he doesn't have to burn them in hell for being born if they'll just live his freaky christian life instead! Joy!
