LAT-TV shuts down

I already posted this on the Texas TV board, but thought Phoenix readers would also be interested (don't confuse this with LA-TV, a Los Angeles based channel carried on a number of OTA digital subchannels.)

LAT-TV, a Spanish language network based in Houston, is shutting down, according to an e-mail from VP of Programming Patricia Torres-Burd in today's tvspy.com.

The network was launched two years ago, and had low power OTA stations in Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Phoenix.

Here in Houston, their flagship KCVH Channel 30 was on the air this past weekend, but is gone today (anything on their channel in Phoenix?)

Failure to get sufficient cable/satellite carriage probably doomed it from the start. And LPTV's have trouble adequately covering the larger markets.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the LPTV licenses. I doubt they'll be dark for long--there's always someone who will want to take their own stab at programming.
 
KVPA-LP 42 has been off the air for over a week. After trying to call their local line and getting nothing but a busy signal, I knew they had closed shop.
 
Eric had mentioned it in the AZ Station Update thread, and speculated that they had gone off the air. I sent an e-mail requesting info, and when that went unanswered, I'd assumed Eric was right.
