Late 80s shock jock

Long time reader, first time posting. I thought I would test someone's memory.
Does anyone have any information on a late 80s shock jock radio show that may have been hosted on what is probably now 99.7? It was a duo. A very large, heavy set gentleman (probably from NY) and a very petite woman, probably about 5' tall, 100 lbs if that. They didn't last very long, I'm sure they were trying to ride the Howard Stern gravy train.

Maybe the man you're thinking of is Perry Stone.  Never saw him, so I don't know if he fits the physical description you gave. He later went to Norfolk, not sure for how long.

There was a Jeff and Smokey that ran on Magic 99.7 WMGG, they were there during the classic rock days of the station they were there 88 - 89, After that was Robin Jones and Stubie Doak, I have to admit i don't remember them, but they hit the air in columbus in May of 89

Perry Stone would have been there Late 1990 - june of 92 He was let go just before the launch of TheBlitz on the weekend of July 4 1992

I'm amazed by some of the member's memories on this site.
I usually pride myself on a decent long term memory but none of those names are familiar. This time frame would probably have been summer of '87 going into '88 and it appears Stone may have been in Milwaukee at that time. Plus, the picture I saw on-line did not look familiar. I only know their physical description by meeting them at a local event.
Their modus operandi for a radio show was to discuss controversial topics to entice people to call the show in order to do nothing but argue with them. Interesting for about a week in a market like Columbus.
Thanks!

How about Jeff and Allison?

No amazing memory involved. I just searched the Columbus Dispatch archives and quickly found a December 5, 1989 article about how Allison Young was suing her former WMGG co-hosts Jeff Goldberg and Larry Genta (known as "Smokey" on the program) for sexual harassment "during an alleged conspiracy to bring 'shock radio' to Columbus."

Hey, that's it! Thanks so much, just a piece of my radio past that I couldn't remember.
I knew they were very simple names. In looking at the other posts and your info, it appears that Jeff and Smokey were probably what was left after Allison parted. I didn't know anything about a lawsuit but assume that's why she parted company though.
Could you send the Columbus Dispatch archive link? I went to their site and did some searching and came up with nothing.
Again, Thanks!!!

I know if you contact the Columbus Metro Library, they will email you a copy of that article at no charge.
It will be a copy made from their microfilm files.

Also, if you have a CML card, you can search the Columbus Dispatch archives for free. I believe that's what Nu_Roo_2 did.

Right.  If you use the search terms shock WMGG Allison, it will pop right up.  It's also in the archives on www.dispatch.com (there's a link at the bottom of the homepage that says "archives"), but you would have to pay something like $4.00 to download it that way instead of going through the site of a library that you belong to.  (It can be any library in the US that offers Newsbank access to members, BTW.  It's a common feature.)

I guess it's OK for me to show just the free preview that shows up when you search the Dispatch Archives:

1) SHOCK RADIO' SHOW SPAWNS NEW LAWSUIT

A former on-air personality at WMGG (99.7 FM) has filed another lawsuit saying she was sexually harassed during an alleged conspiracy to bring "shock radio" to Columbus.

Allison Young, who worked at the station from October 1987 to June 1988, is suing North American Broadcasting Co., her former employer. The action was filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Columbus.

North American and Young's former co-hosts, Jeff Goldberg and Larry Genta, are...

Amazing what you'll find deep in the forums...and while this is so old a thread, felt like I should be available if anyone remembers Jeff & Allison who later added me (Smokey) before Allison found a way to sue Jeff...then the station...then the team of Jeff & Smokey because she was offended by a recorded drop from a movie! Unprecedented then 1989....
