Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

What has been the feedback as to Jimmy Fallon as a talk show host? Is Craig Ferguson holding his own or growing his audience? Where can I get the rating information?

That's not an article, that's somebody's blog, although the numbers are interesting. I'd be curious to see if that trend continues, or if it was just a fluke.

and we thought the late night TV shows of Chevy Chase & Rick Dees sucked. if THIS is the "Future" of late night TV, it will be going away soon. they need to get somebody with 'Talent" or at the very least somebody with a local radio/tv broadcasting background.
this is WHY Letterman works, he knows how to use Televison.

I watched fallon the first week. But like I said.... I really miss Conan. I don't get Fallon 's band. I never heard of them in my life. So I don't know how legendary they could possibly be. However I think Fallon is a talented performer. He did some things on SNL that made me laugh my ass off. However as a talk show host.... the whole thing just isn't working for me.

I will echo the above posts, the show can be extremely choppy at times. Big lulls of entertainment-lag. However, and this is a big however, wasn't Conan under the same scrutiny at the start? My memory is hazy on this, but it seemed like it took a year or two for Conan to gain an audience. I may be wrong on this, so please correct me if that is the case. (perhaps it is just the mechanics of changing a host, the newcomer has to live up to the former host, and that can be daunting...Conan may well be up against this when he starts Tonight.) While David will most likely suffer curiousity ratings slippage from Conan, he is in a really GOOD position, IMO.

I don't remember what Conan's ratings were when the show began - but I thought the show was very good from the get-go - great out-of-the-box writing, in particular. Fallon's show is much weaker, IMO. Conan himself was rough around the edges and didn't come off well on camera at first, but he learned. I recall that a lot of people disliked Andy Richter, but I always liked him.

And has been mentioned in other posts, Andy will be back with Conan as the announcer on Tonight.

Conan was real close to being fired by NBC. The show just wasn't going over well during that first couple of years. But he grew and his audience grew. We ended up with an excellent show. Fallon better hope that he can be just as lucky as Conan was. Otherwise NBC may give him the boot. However I do have to say that NBC seems to tolerate a lot during the late night hours. They even kept Carson Daly on. What more can I say.

Conan's show was uneven for several months, which was made worse by the fact that David Letterman had a consistently good show. It took Conan a long time to build a following and I expect the same for Jimmy Fallon. I just hope the network has patience and gives him a chance to succeed.

Aaron Barnhart is a longtime TV critic for the Kansas City Star, so his TVBarn blog (which has been up for years) carries good enough credibility in my book.

Probably not legendary, but they're a pretty big deal regardless. With the exceptions of Max Weinberg and Sheila E., they might be the most mainstream act to provide the in-house music for a late-night program in a long time.
