Interesting trend. Good one for Oldies, Jack, River, SIX is back in front of WSM-FM. The fan is still the lowest rated station in town. Interesting to see several of the Spanish language AM's show up. Besides WMGC, the first time I've seen that.

Wow, now not just 1, but 3 Spanish language AMs ranking higher than the Fan! And as it slowly sinks to the bottom, UBT is climbing ever higher again. In its heyday, 106.7 took the edge off of UBT and allowed for a great tandem with 92Q. The rest of Cumulus's Nashville house appears to be in order. Why not take 106.7 off on an urban tangent again? This would be a great time, as Steve Harvey has just launched a new syndicated morning show, sure to be a draw!

Why not? Because it would make sense! Cumulus is allergic to success.
______________

They certainly got off to a bad start here, that's for sure. But what they've done for 95.5 turned out to be more brilliant than most of us realized, and all of us recognized what a great move it was to take 97.1 to oldies. You'd think anyone who could make such intelligent moves would wake up and flip 106.7 at some point.

Maybe they're waiting until some contracts are up before they make the change of the year at 106.7.

And as for Oldies, they are doing it a LOT better than South Central ever did.

Does any know the morning ratings? If so can you post there rank?

97.1 vs 96.3

Yeah, Cumulus is doing better than SCC. For now. The bubble should burst soon, or if it already has, the trends will begin to show it. 97.1 is relying on power hits from the 60s and 70s, or what I call "corporate oldies." The burn factor is very high after about 2 books with this kind of oldies station, and is, I believe, the reason Oldies as a format is dying nationwide.

Re: 97.1 vs 96.3

"Power hits from the 60's & 70's" was what kept 96.3 in the top 5 25-54
for so long, and it continues to do well for Cumulus,..aside from a few tweaks here and there, it's basically the same radio station..

..as far as the bubble bursting, I think that's wishful thinking on your part

Cumulus is allowing songs to be played that South Central never did. One can only take so much of songs like "My Girl" and "Do Ya Love Me?", both of which are awful to begin with. Cumulus seems to be appealing to a somewhat younger demographic with more 70s stuff.

Re: 97.1 vs 96.3

What I'm getting at is that you can't survive forever rotating the same 200-250 songs over and over, especially at the rate 97.1 is.

I hope Oldies 97.1 does well, I really do. I hate to see the format die like it has been doing nationwide, but if 97.1 doesn't expand the playlist, it won't last long.
______________

106.7

THIS JUST IN: 106.7 has never had a "heyday". It's always been a low- rated slug in Nashville.

Hate to point this out, but they did make one very right call going Oldies on 97.1

Now, I'm not a huge Cumulus fan, but all this "bubble should burst soon" talk is so small-time. Reminds me of all the Jack nay-sayers: "it'll never last" is just about all you hear (even though the format is kicking booty all over the place).

And, what are "corporate oldies"? My guess would be MAJOR HITS- that's what Oldies stations play, the music their listeners say they want to hear. What evidence do you have that they "burn out after about 2 books" (which is 6 months)?

97.1

But which is it: "forever" or "2 months"? They could run with their initial playlist for at least a year, easy. Not saying I would do that because I don't believe in 250 song oldies playlists but part of the attraction of oldies is playin' the hits, the BIG hits- and they apparently are to the delight of thousands in your market.

Morning Arbitrends

Overall, Jack is #1, WSIX 2nd, Oldies is 4th.

Actually, WSIX and Jack are tied for first. WUBT third, Oldies fourth

Morning Arbitrends

What-EVER-- took 'em off the trend order. Same diff.

The story is simple. South Central may have (at least temporarily) struck gold with Jack-FM, but--just like I said would happen, go back and check--they robbed Peter (Mix) to pay Paul (Jack).
______________
