Latest Charlotte Arbitron

As Mike Sheridan pointed out in the "Lake" thread, I think its early surge may simply be the curiosity seekers. However, someone in a coma would have more life than what CC had been putting into "Lite" in recent months or even the past year.

Regarding WXRC - this station is proof that even an awesome 100k signal isn't enough to get listeners. They show no listeners since May. OR, if they don't subscribe to Arbitron do their numbers get listed?

Eric

The Lake has become a breath of fresh air in the Charlotte market. I listen to them on line and find them to be on target with their version of "Classic Hits". This format will take some pressure off the group and put a lot of top spin on increased numbers. 2.9 to a 5.0 is huge and they did it with only part of the survey period under the new format. Hard to swith back and forth on line to hear them and The Ride but rhw eisw ia juar so lame. Little to no change musically in years, image liners are way old and boring, and from whatt I can tell there is little to no community involvement. To win one needs to be on top of their game 24/7 and from what I can hear The Lake is there!

No, they don't get listed.

The Arbitron deal is a double-edged sword. You can pay through the nose for it to show numbers to clients or you can save the $$$ and not be listed. If you haven't seen the cost, let me tell ya - it's not cheap.

Diary? WXRC is in a PPM market. If you had a diary what was your level of listenership?

I am not in the Charlotte market, so I guess that is why. The diary was for down here in South Carolina.

I wish The Lake would can the post-2000 stuff and focus more on the 70s and 80s like Chuck FM down here in Greenville. They pull out decent classic hits gems that haven't been heard lately like "Working My Way Back To You" by The Spinners. Chuck-FM is actually one of the most focused, least off the wall variety hits stations I've ever heard. I guess that kinda defeats the format's purpose, though. I get The Lake at the house, and enjoy some of the songs, but when AC stuff like Gavin DeGraw, Carly Rae Jepsen, Kelly Clarkson, etc. come on, I turn it off. That stuff is played on enough stations.

I don't like The Ride either, but it will sound like 2002 as long as it has the current management. :'(

None of us have to like The Ride as long as Dave likes the ride! 2002 is being kind. The Ride has lots of potential and all of you in the market know it. Thing is Dave does not know it or does not care!

I respectfully disagree. I like hearing the ''Post-2000 Stuff''. It's like mixing a Classic Rock Station with WKBC-97.3-FM. And, as long as it is ''Tastefully Done'', I think it will work. Maybe for the simple reason that Charlotte is simply currently ''Very Hungry'' for a new music fix on FM Radio.

Big-Nod to South Carolina_ I would like to hear Duncan Sheik's Songs added to the Playlist. He is from Hilton Head, SC. I feel His Songs would fit right in with the Lake's Format. Steve.

I believe what it amounts to is that Dave and Co. are on a ''Budget'' until some time in the future. I do not know what a 100KW Signal does to your Power Bill, much less what it costs for the Arbitron Ratings.

I do not ride a motorcycle, nor am I a big fan of ''Live Cuts'', but I do appreciate 95.7 and its Music. Listener since 1985. Does anyone remember ''X-Rock'' Promo. My how Time Flies. Steve.

HEY ''Powers That Be'' --- LAKE 102.9 --- Let's Add ''Vertical Horizon'' Music To THE LAKE (no I am NOT Affiliated with the Lake I am an Consumer).....

And while we're at it. Wouldn't it be great for a local station to play the Avett Brothers? The most I hear them locally is on WBT during Hancock's show.

I hear them occasionally on WNCW.

Yep, the Ride does not subscribe to Arbitron. Mark washburn and the Observer make note of that every time they post ratings. As I recall 95.7 was consisently posting low 3's when they were listed. I doubt they've deviated much since. Not bad for a station hardly markets and hasn't changed a thing in 10 years. I do wish they would liven up the mix and add a few new tunes. I think even baby boomers like to be introduced to some new stuff out there. Remember the old 'Deep Cuts' format back in the 90's?

As for The Lake, I think they're going for the 'Jack-we play everything' variety hits format. To me it was sort of the direction 'Lite' was going toward anyway. I still can't figure out if the formula will work. for a station that was willing to leave the AC fight to 104.7 & 107.9, I still think they still sound a lot like them, just adding a few more songs here or there. I know they can only do so much before hurting sister stations 96.1 or 99.7 but we'll wait and see I guess.
