Latest Charlotte Ratings

Eric,

Yes, this is the 1st time WKBC has shown up in the CLT book.

They moniker themselves "80's, 90's & Now - 97.3FM".

100kw from N. Wilkesboro!

Their ID is "WKBC - N. Wilkesboro/Winston-Salem & the Hill Country!"

AP News on the hour.

Knew they were there, but, within the past week, they've really been booming into the area.

Do they have a local morning show, & are on the bird the rest of the day?

Owned by Wilks.

Used to work for Don Wilks when I worked @Wacky102-Rock102/Springfield MA.

AllAccess says they're Hot AC.

R&R says they're CHR/Top 40.

What are they?

Another station that has shown up in the CLT book is Entercom/Greenboros' 100KW Adult Hits "98.7 Simon - We Play Everything".

Ever since I heard this station months ago, I've been hooked.

Local morning show, then "Everything" the rest of the day, w/breakers & sweepers in between songs.

No jocks.

Great strategy to save $!

Sure is refreshing to hear these stations instead of K1047 & the repetition of Fleetwood Mac/Pink Floyd on 99.7.

Like I said before, a larger market is not always better, as evidenced by these stations making a mark in the CLT book - it shows you that CLT listeners are moving away & searching for variety!

What do you think about these stations?

Why doesn't Charlotte, the largest city between DC & Atlanta, have stations like these?

Where is Charlottes' Active Rocker?

Is there an Active Rocker left anywhere in the State? None in Charlotte, Greensboro or Raleigh.

It's High Country, not Hill Country, and sometimes they will say Charlotte in their id.

They're Hot AC, no doubt about that.

WKBC plays a decent variety of Hot-AC music. They sound much better than when 107.9 played that format. Is there any news on if they may move into the charlotte area. That is one format missing.

Isn't Planet Rock 93.3 considered to be Active Rock? Licensed to Forest City and it's kind of a Asheville/Hickory/Greenville-Spartanburg station.

I love listening to WKBC from the Charlotte area but do NOT want them moving locally to just serve Charlotte. Our region (NC) has had too many stations moving to the few core metros already and I am sick of that!! Let them continue to broadcast from their Brushy Mtn point where they serve much of NW and Piedmont North Carolina.

I lidten all the time and I live in Southwest Charlotte! The stations in Charlotte suck. Kiss 95.1...good song...good song...good song...RAP! Yuk. CHR stations in non black areas such as the northeast tend to go very light on rap...if they play any at all. That is not the case here. WNKS should lighten up on the rap...but they are too scared to loose points to 96.1. I am sick of stations in Charlotte trying to copy each other. We pretty much have two Chr's, two light ac's, two classic rock. There is even someone on this board from K 1047 that said they will never let 102.9 win! Give us some variety! I hate it! WKBC is the only reason I have not turned to sattelitte yet.

Jim, I might have said that I used to work at "K" till this month. I had enough and quit for a variety of reasons.

As a listener I love the variety on XM Radio. I NEVER thought that I would pay for radio but I didn't know what I was missing. One of the guys on "60's on 6" had a line that I loved today...over the song "What Becomes of The Brokenhearted" he said that Terry Young told him what becomes of the brokenhearted, they end up working at "lite Rock" stations! Funny line!!!

A happy XM listener!

Mike

My sentiments exactly.

1. 93.3-The Planet-WTPT-Forest City/Greenville/Spartanburg/Anderson is in SC.

It is not licensed to Asheville/Hickory NC, even though it can be received there.

The Charlotte metro needs it's own Active Rocker like the Planet.

2. K104.7 will never let Lite102.9 win?

I beg to differ with that.

It's a battle.

Sometimes, 102.9 is on top, then 104.7, or a tie.

It's "WKBC, North Wilkesboro, Winston-Salem and the High Country."

Thanks for clearing that up. I definitely see the difference between the two ;D
(Sorry, but I just couldn't resist!)

Okay for those who seem to need clarification. What that means is CBS is not about to let Clear Channel have the A/C market all to itself. It wouldn't make sense. Lite's numbers would be much higher if "K" wasn't a format competitor.

Is that clear enough?

Hang in there AMFM1 I really think you have what it takes to be a Program Director. ::)

Update on the ID for 'KBC:

@Three PM, I heard "WKBC-N. Wilkesboro/Winston-Salem/BOONE & The High Country".

Do they add secondary "book" towns, such as Boone (that are included in their ratings - the station I work at calls them "book" towns) to their ID as stations have been doing recently, besides their primary ID cities of N. Wilkeboro/Winston-Salem?

For example, would tomorrows' ID be "WKBC-N. Wilkesboro/Winston-Salem/BLOWING ROCK & The High Country"?

I've heard it as "WKBC-N. Wilkesboro/Charlotte/Boone & The High Country".

I think of heard Statesville and Hickory in place of Charlotte or Winston-Salem.

I've also heard "WKBC-N. Wilkesboro/Wilkesboro.

They may have been working Boone because of the weekend football win!
