The two sports stations are praying for games to return.
Well, at least for now, WMVP can claim that they've narrowed their gap with WSCR. And WMVP didn't even need a better book to do it! Feder says they may go live and local in morning drive. Personally, I think even Australian Rules Football or live Chess matches would create an upgrade in their morning drive numbers.
I vote for Live chess matches![]()
Gotcha beat. When I was in Puerto Rico in the 70's, there was a station in Mayaguez that carried domino matches on the radio live.
"And he blocks with a double six!"
Lotta fun. And sponsored.

During my year of high school in Honolulu, KORL (650) was broadcasting professional roller derby live from the Honolulu Civic Auditorium. Sponsored. Ted Sachs (later Ted Sax) was the PD, and one of his jocks was doing the PBP. IIRC, Sachs also did some TV PBP (KGMB-TV, ch 9) on a tape delay basis airing on Sundays. Roller Derbu was a hoot in person. I went to several matches with guys I hung out with, but the "sport"
didn't exactly come across well on radio. And it also seemed odd to me that it was airing on a top 40 station.
Got any tapes of that?![]()
Roller Derby was fun to watch in person, but on the radio--I can't imagine. This could also be said about a beauty pageant. I'm the guy who once broadcast a Miss Iowa pageant. Solo. On radio. Sponsored. I freely admit I didn't know what the hell I was doing, but I did get a few compliments.

A beauty pageant on the radio. As a listener I don't think I could judge your work.![]()
The late, great Stan Freberg once presented acrobats on his CBS Radio show.
