Latest Las Vegas ratings?

Has anyone seen the latest ratings lately? I haven't seen them in a while. I'll try to get my PD to show me some tomorrow. But if one of you has access, I would love for you to post them if you can.

Thanks EMJ, but of course everyone can see the 6+ numbers. The demos that really count are P25-54 and P18-34 and I finally was able to get my hands on the data. Without posting the actual ranks (cause I know that would upset a certain RI poster), I will just post the stations who were top 10 in each demo and give my thoughts below.

October P25-54 top 10 stations (not in order of rank):
KKLZ, Point, KOAS, Sunny, Mix, KWID, KOMP, Coyote, KISF, BOB

October P18-34 top 10 stations (not in order of rank)
KISF, Coyote, KVEG, Sunny, Mix, KLUC, Point, KKLZ, KRRN, KWID

Notes from me:
-Lotus and Beasley should be pretty happy with their 25-54 showing, with all of their main stations in the top 10. And actually, Beasley has the #1 and #2 station in this demo.

-Sunny was down slightly from September, but I expect them to explode in December with Christmas music. I wonder when they’re going to start this year.

-Mix was up a little with 25-54 but just barely made the top 5. They are performing much better in the 18-34 demo. CBS is general is probably a little concerned with only one station in the top 10 P25-54. As you probably know, this isn’t the norm for them. PPM has not been too friendly to CBS thus far. Although, KLUC and Mix is pretty dominate in the 18-34 demo. But most buyers are still mainly basing their buys on 25-54.

-KOMP is way down… the lost over a share from August and September. I believe they were #1 25-54 in August and just barely made the top10 this month. What’s happening there? I don’t believe they made any major changes.

-The Country battle isn’t even close anymore. Coyote is doing extremely well, especially in the younger demos. KWNR looks to be in serious trouble in both demos. What a difference a year can make. Last year, the stations were virtually tied. I wonder if the new KWNR PD will be able to turn it around.

-Does Las Vegas have too many Top 40 stations or what? Not a single one is in the top 10 P25-54. And only 2 of them are in the top 10 P18-34. KPLV looks awful! And KFRH should be doing much better considering they play minimal commercials. I think one of them will eventually go away. Clear Channel has a tough road ahead of them with 2 of their 3 stations (KWNR and KPLV) being the lowest rated music FMs in the market.

Here are the stations I have been hearing around town over the past month or so. This is all random and anecdotal of course. I hear KSNE more than any other station followed by MIX. No surprise that AC would be playing in a lot of offices and stores. The next round of stations I hear would be KKLZ and KXPT, I am starting to notice BOB on in places.

I hear KVEG on more than any other Top 40. The past five times I heard country on it was KCYE every time. Once again, all random observations, few of these places will ever get a PPM.

I have had a lifelong fascination on what stations are hot or not and how they are trending. I did inhouse research for a Top 40 in the 80s. When they flipped formats they ended the research department and gave me other duties. I was so addicted to making those phone calls that I conducted my own surveys at home just to stay in touch. Back then there were only two books per year and no monthlies.

In the Spring of 1985 Hot AC 93.1 KUDO was coming up huge in my survey. Nobody I knew in radio believed it because that station never did much in the five years they were on at the time. Sure enough when the Spring 85 book came out KUDO shocked the market with a 6.4 share, I believe the highest ratings that frequency has ever had in it's history.

Well, even though your form of research (hearing stations in businesses) isn't exactly scientific, it's pretty close to what is going on in the ratings. All of the stations you're hearing around town are doing well right now in PPM.

Sunny is on fire right now. KKLZ and KOAS were number 1 and 2 during the October book but according to my PD source, Sunny is coming on strong in the November book by looking at the November weeklies that have already been released. Normally they blow up in the December book as they begin Christmas music. So, this could be a particularly big year for them with a strong lead in to Christmas music. This will take a toll on almost every station in Vegas.

Lotus' Point has been hot for some time now as the only Classic Rock station and they'll probably always be strong. Classic Rock does very well in PPM. Their sister station KOMP has taken a big hit over the past few months. Perhaps BOB-FM is to blame as BOB is now a pretty strong station in the key demos. BOB is now out performing what JACK-FM normally did a few years back.

Beasley's Country station Coyote is definitely on fire right now, especially P18-34 where they are #1 or #2. Clear Channel's Country KWNR is 18th, 19th, or 20th in all key demos...pretty much the lowest rated music station (outside of maybe KPLV, Clear Channel's Top 40).

If christmas music gets killer ratings, why doesn't everyone do it? Imagine every station in town going that route.

Or even just one or two others to fragment the share. SUNNY would still win for sure but their share wouldn't be quite as high. As I mentioned before it's quite unusual for a market to only have one (commercial) holiday station these days.

Radiopunk99, I heard KSNE again today in two different stores. Plus I met a 39 year old woman who is an active listener of SUNNY (she is a former MIX listener btw), she get's excited wondering what they are going to play next, she especially likes the 80s music they play such as "Eye Of The Tiger". I always figured AC was a passive background format so I was kind of surprised they have listeners who totally get into the station. I take it KSNE is doing better than the other two CC stations combined right now?

JayF, that is correct. Sunny has more share than both KWNR and KPLV combined.
