Looking at the cellar dwellers I keep wondering:

Is WLNK over?
Is WFNZ over?
Is the Oldies format over?
are the Spanish language formats over?
Is it time for a format change at 92.7?

I know we're just looking at 12+ but this has got to provide some indication that these stations have some serious problems.

How about Flipping formats between WLNK and WBT AM/FM?
An all request Urban format on 92.7 with callers introducing their request (everybody likes being on the air! I know this could be a real headache).

105.3 back to serving Gaffney Local radio.
106.1 WHVN
1240 Standards from WAVO.

I know... crazy ideas!

PPM when it comes should be interesting.

I've long wondered how The Link continues to be profitable. I'm sure they are paying out some big paychecks over there, and they have a great signal.

105.3 move back to Gaffney? Never. Even if the Spanish got to the point where it wasn't able to stay operational, I'm sure the station could be sold and operated successfully in the Charlotte market. It will never move.

Was this a "kiss" for The Ride? Seems they have a great Summer Book and then fall back .. Classic Hits or Oldies done correctly in Charlotte could certainly be a factor for something willing to make the move. Dave at The Ride will never win with his CH and Oldies WTHZ doesn't have the signal to be a factor. Some of the big guys are going to have to make some changes if they intent to be a factor in the market. Voice tracking coupled with a lack of promotion and visibality has created some major challenges for in the market.

Yep, but what happens when WTHZ moves their tower and COL to Faith NC and puts a city grade signal into Charlotte?

BIGAPE!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say they will probably change format. If they keep the current format I predict the ratings will stay about the same. That's not to say I dislike what they are doing now, I just don't think it will get the mass audience.

The WTHZ signal is not that bad around much of the Charlotte market now. If they were running a format people cared about most could hear it with just a little effort.

I'm going to agree, even though Gig Hilton is my cousin, the oldies or whatever format that he and Tom Collins has put on THZ is nothing like what CBS is running on their successful oldies outlets and the talent is still lackluster. Moving to faith and putting a city grade signal is not going to help if you don't have the talent and programming to back it up. You can move a station to Bum F Egypt but if you don't change what you are doing wrong in one market, it sure is hell is not going to work in a larger market.. Am I not right, Mike? BIGAPE

TC can't possibly last that much longer! The guy is ancient! Gig may hire a real PD at some point. BUT, I doubt he'll still own the station once he gets it moved. He doesn't even like the business, he just inherited it and he's trying to maximize what he makes off it when he SELLS it.

I read in the paper today that The Lnk along with WBT are still the top 2 stations in advertising sales in Charlotte. Ratings might not show it, but they must be doing something right. Lingefelt has so little overhead with The Ride that he's probably making a little profit with his stations too. I do agree a few flips would be good for the area.

Switching WTHZ back to a Hot AC sfter the tower moves would be a great move for them.

I'm not going to fault the talent at 94.1 they sound okay to me. You never know what the station allows them to do. Besides anybody that calls himself "The Shark" gets points in my book. That name cracks me up!

I don't get to hear 94.1 a lot, but they are weird. Some times when I listen they sound VERY good musically then a couple of months later it's awful. Is that common with them?

IMO 94.1 isn't really a Charlotte station. It doesn't have solid coverage all over Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill...it's good in a lot of spots, but still, it's not. And isn't it geared/marketed towards the Triad?

Not so crazy!

I will say I picked up WOLS once and they were playing a really good song. I mean this could be on WAVO if it were in English, although some foreign-language songs are played in the format.

WHVN needs to do hockey. How many Checkers fans are in Concord and Rock Hill? Most of the games are at night, right? If they're road games you can't just go to the arena.
