Latest on 1460?

So, they just announced that they will be using the 1460 signal to broadcast all the tournament games while the FM continues to opperate the regular sports talk format. Will this begin the change over of 1460 to... whatever?

Last week on "The Matt and Ramona Show," Matt Harris used the term "bastards" to describe WBNS management dumping the show.

Was it because they turned out to be liberals disguised as a funny talk show? ;D

So much for their triumphant return to Columbus radio. ::)

I doubt it. It's very cheap for them to do this.... Just program the 1460 input to air the games while 97.1 contiunes on with the normal programming... kinda like 97.1 rolls on with ESPN when bluejackets are playing.. Just a matter of telling a computer to do something at a specific time.. very cheap to do..

Until the economy improves I dont' see Dispatch doing anything else with 1460.

In a way, I'd like to see them do something similar to what KNR in Cleveland does with their daytime signal... KNR2.

Some suggestions for 1460: 1) Police Scanner Radio. Mic a police scanner and let it run. Call it SCAN 1460. 2) Morse Code format. Broadcast the latest news, wx and sports in Morse code. Liner: "1460-Morse Code all the way to Morse Road. After that fagedaboudit!" 3) Donate it to charity.

I said it the day they switched formats on 97.1 and it is still true today. I'm not a Fan of the FAN.

Then again, there must be somebody out there that does like it, and I'm sure it makes them happy.

I used much more "colorful" terms for WBNS management that fateful day on Monday, January 26, 2009 at 4 PM(Now known as "Black Monday") than just calling them "bastards", but I won't repeat them here. Just use your imagination...I know this move pissed off a lot of people. ;D
Also, that had to be the absolute WORST launch for a station in the history of broadcasting. A high school station could've done a better job putting together a launch than the 20,000 watt jock strap of Central Ohio!

Wow! What's your deal with the fan? What do you want on 97.1? I frankly love it! Yeah the launch was horrible, but my goodness!

I for one think this will be a good move for Radiohio in the long run. After all, we're talking about an FM sports station in a very active sports town. They probably should have done this years ago. What young demo listens to AM anyway? 1460 should go MOYL or something that attracts the 55 plus demo.
Plus they can monetize all of the expense of the ex-OSU talent on their staff with a larger audience (hopefully) on the FM. They have a wealth of resources with the newspaper, tv, onn, etc to bring to the dance.

I'm guessing that those who enjoyed the music on 97.1 would like to see a return of the music. Or at least would like to express their outrage that it was taken away from them and replaced with something that doesn't even come close to being music.

Of course, that is just my guess. ;)

I'd like to express that my favorite music is now off 97.1. I don't blame RadiOhio for changing 97.1 to sports if they think they can make more money by doing
so.

Some people may also be outraged that 1460 continues to simulcast the sports programming on 97.1 FM. With all the other options for programming out there,
this seems hard to believe. They even turned down the request(s) for a Progressive Talk format for their 1460 frequency.

1460 aint changin anytime soon....this is a cheap way to program two frequencies and is becoming common place....plus apparently from some ads I heard today Indians games will become priority on 1460 during scheduling conflicts....and Columbus progressive fans---sorry, that train "left the station" and aint ever coming back....

ANYTHING but Sports! Not to mention the people that lost their jobs because of this flip. I would've kept the Hot AC format but improved on it(Much like 107.9 and Saga have done). However, RadiOhio decided to go the cheap route and fire everyone and move the jock talk to the FM. Also, following that crap launch they start the 4 O'Clock show and say that people ask them constantly when they're going to be on a bigger signal "About once a week from November thru about February or March". So the rest of the year no one cares? Okay. Whatever I guess. I just can't see why someone would waste their time listening to jock talk on the radio. ::)

I have to agree, I'm not a fan of the talk format, be it sports or political. About the only talk format I would listen to is a news format like NPR's news shows.

I think the high fidelity spectrum of FM should be used for music. For stations playing music on AM, I feel they would do the music justice by putting it on FM. Ah, but I'm drifting off to another topic/station so I'll stop there.

EXACTLY my point! Thanks V.!

whatever became of the FCC reg that no duplication of programming on co-owned AM/FM in same city (market)? When i first notices these, the FM siimulcast was licensed to a suburban town (WHIO, Dayton, simulcast on WHIO-FM, Piqua). But, now it seems that all bets are off. ???

Don't know for sure but that was probably another poison dart in Telecom 96. The corporate culture and lobbyists for the big boys have allowed this kind of thing to happen. It's been the wild, wild west now for sometime but those roosters have come home to roost judging by the economy. Even though this generation of Wolfe's appear to be more moderate than the preceeding generation, they will never have a Progressive format on one of their signals.
