This morning's Greensboro News and Record reports
that Bob Schieffer is enthusiastic at the idea of
Katie Couric's becoming permanent anchor of the
CBS Evening News. He praises her journalistic
abilities as well as her credibility, and adds
that news has reached the point where gender no
longer matters in the selection of an anchor.
With CBS beginning to make a move in the ratings,
and with Couric in her 40s like Brian Williams,
Bob Woodruff, and Elizabeth Vargas, hiring her
would be a wise decision on CBS's part, Schieffer
believes.
