Latest PPM Releases--July '09

I just looked at them, and with all the talk about "what will Entercom do?" and "what about WEEI?" because of the launch, you should check out the numbers. Yes, they're 6+, but some conclusions can still be made...

-WEEI has been steadily dropping
-WAAF has been steadily dropping
-WBCN remained even, but not stellar
-WBOS doing OK, better than 'BCN was
-Mike-FM and Mix doing pretty well, but cume and AQH
-WFNX still bad, in fact a little worse

Of course, these are the stations pertinent to the WBCN/Sports Hub/Mix switch. As I stated in another post, Entercom needs to consider its options.

i noticed that. Their transmitters are both on One Financial Place - WFNX has 1700 watts. WERS has 4000 watts. According to Radio-Locator. WERS plays no commercials, and is quite focused, with disciplined jocks who don't BS, banter, do stupid contests, or talk about themselves AT ALL. Much more listenable, mass appeal, and with a refreshingly eclectic mix of music (at least in the morning when i listen). Makes sense they'd beat FNX, although FNX sounds like they're hoping to pick up BCN's former listeners.
 
I almost crashed my car today when I heard this FNX promo:

"The Rock of Boston is gone but Boston rock lives on, welcome to WFNX."

Then I heard a Papa Roach song.

Going for the BCN crowd is one thing but do you so it at the expense of your core? Granted the core is 7 people. Did I just hear Led Zeppelin?

WBCN failed for a reason. WFNX will fall off the same cliff. Wish they would emulate 'BCN's final 4 days of "freeform" programming instead of becoming a station i used to listen to. WFNX's music today was awful - one dimensional and raucous. WBOS will be the big winner here, and WFNX will blow it. Doesn't Mindich remember the disaster that Bruce Mittman brought on them with the same kind of programming?
