It works in Santa Rosa and now it's working in L.A. And it will work everywhere!

Many of the Smooth Jazz flips around the country were pre-mature! (KSSJ Sacramento, WQCD New York....and the list goes on......Oops! )

Since he's in L.A. , Kaye will get most of the credit for the upcoming surge of this format, but so what....

It's a smart format with sell-able target demo's!

I am told (actually, they are out telling clients) that KOST in 25-54 was up 30% over January, while KTWV was down in each sucessive week of the book.

Let's wait 4 to 6 books to see how this works.

The real story seems to be in the significant and trendable rise of KSWD starting back in November and now mre than double the October levels.

At least everything is back to normal, KROQ is back on top and KYSR is below them! AMP (ugh...) has risen, so Stryker leaving will not affect them? KXOL seems to keep going down, how long before some changes happen?

KXOL did not encode for 10 days so their numbers were down

What does encoding mean? So, I guess no one really went down this month...

"Encoding" is the process of inserting a nonaudible "tag" in each station's broadcast audio as often as 12 times a minute. This coded tag identifies the time and the station to the PPM (Personal People Meter) which members of the Arbitron ratings panel carry (in theory) with them. This data is downloaded to Arbitron daily and tabulated to produce the monthly ratings books.

Not really, Little to no advertising is more accurate. I would like John to join in a big, loud predictable 'yawn' to The Sound as they've made it to being a carbon copy of their sister station in Chicago - Classic Rock WDRV. I'm interested in KCSN and how the full AAA format will show vs. the former Classical format, now THAT'S something I'll be looking forward to in the next book. ;D Peace - Joe p.s. - Congrats KSWD for the 2.8, at least you've found your calling. And WDRV throws off tons of cash ... and this is a business for profit.

This thread was about KTWV and what it has done to essentially create a fresh, trend-setting format!

It made a significant move, in a very short amount of time??

And everyone, including DE, just kind of dismisses it??

This format is way too new to judge... they are flushing out the old (by age and listening habits) listeners smooth jazz listeners and transforming the format. So far, it's 17th in 25-54, which is no progress over the old format.

And, as was mentioned, in February it went down each week. I think that is a product of the transformation, as I believe Jhani Kaye can make this station into something, even with the burden of the image of the old format.

KTWV is nowhere near the format that they want to be yet. It's obviously in a transitional phase. I'd wait six months to a year. Then you'll hear a closer approximation of what they're aiming for. He's already added a new imaging voice, updated their logo and added lots of AC vocals, but I believe it's merely a start.

Any time a station goes from a 1.9 to a 2.8, that is definitely worth talking about. Super and I among others have long registered our criticisms of KSWD's original AAA format and the totuious path they have taken to get where they are, but no one (including me) believed they had any chance to make it in the AAA format, well-presented or not. Similar to the process KTWV is in the midst of right now, they have essentially completely changed their format while keeping the same overall presentation. To make successful significant changes without a wholesale blowout of the format and presentation really does take some doing. So congratulations to the Sound for a commercial, if not artistic, job well done. Hey if it means playing Boston's debut album to death, then so be it. Beats selling to another Spanish broadcaster at a loss. I celebrate their accomplishment - while listening to KCSN.

My issue was that you made some silly proclamation looking at a 6+ number - data that is irrelevant to any advertiser.

For a station like KTWV, it's all about Adults 25-54 and some subsets of those adult demos. KTWV bounced back from the holiday book, where they were hurt by KOST - but KOST still has a strong lead in 25-54.

However, you basically inferred that they were on KOST's tail - which the numbers say different.

The station is in transition, just like Flipper said KSWD was. It's unfair to judge it after Jhani has had it for a short period.

The key is making the station younger. KTWV beats Power 106 in 6+ by 0.2 but Power is #2 18-49. It's all about the money demos which is why you can't make a judgment 6+.
