Latest Ratings

I always look forward to reading the comments on this board about the ratings... so I'd like to kick it off for the latest set if I may?

A couple of things struck me, how WDUV completely wiped the floor with everyone again was one of those things. Interesting how Oldies based stations are still doing well in Tampa, even if not so elsewhere. WRBQ is still rising since it's switch back to the 'Q' name. The recent format switch to US Country on WFUS has been hugely successful also... wonder if they can become a real challenger for number one Country station in Tampa??

Meanwhile, WWRM hasn't experienced the quite the same Christmas boost as All-Christmas stations did in other cities (and it also lags behind the same ratings for last year). Wondered if anybody had any insights on that one?

Also, the performance of Mix 100.7 still continues to confuse. Its drop this time (not only in the main Tampa market, but also in bordering markets) is dramatic. Interesting that its performance has dipped, since most of the commentary on this board advocated widening its playlist towards something more 'Jack-like' - which has happened - yet its rating has pretty much bottomed out from anything I can recall. Would love to read your thoughts!
______________

Cox gets in their own way where Magic is concerned. Any upper demos that the station might get in another market are being hijacked here by WDUV.

It's Tampa's First Ratings As A Top 20 Radio Market :)

That's b/c the average age in Tampa-St. Pete, and even moreso down in Sarasota, is higher then the national avergae. Senior citizens musical preferences are reflected in the ratings.

The Christmas list was just too tight. Here in my home office the radio is on all day. Within two weeks they completely burned me out.

Over-analyzed Ratings

As I overanalyzed the ratings, I found it interesting that the top 18 stations are all owned by companies who have names beginning with the letter "C". Of the bottom 10 stations listed, only two of them are brought to you by the letter "C".

Who wants to take odds on how long it will take after this revelation before we see name changes for the companies whose names begin with the other letters of the alphabet? We have all seen stations do stupider things to try advancing in the book.

There really is no "senior citizen" station in this market since the WGUL sale. Of course, it depends upon the age that is considered "senior". Would love to see DUV's demos. In my unscientific observations I see many 35-55 year old (mostly women) listening to DUV.

No Kidding!!! Wow. And even in Bradenton where 92.5 had nothing, they went into the 3's. I notice that Mega 820 is off the list.

Well, you know Cox's philosophy, let's throw two or three stations at the same target audience. Eagle sits in the middle of sharing with the Point on the female side of the demo, and with the Bone on the male side.

Meanwhile CBS uses their FMs for Country, Jazz, Oldies, Churban and Spanish. CC has Active Rock, AC, CHR, Urban and Country. Maybe the same age ranges on multiple stations, but far less musical overlap.
______________

I know most of you can't see the extraps but the December number for them was BIG! 18-34 and 25-54. That's the only thing that saved them from having a crappy fall book.

BINGO!! It seemed like their Christmas rotation cycled every six to eight hours...then repeated itself until the Delilah (ugh) marathon started.
