Latest trends?

So which of the Black stations are the odd man out? We still have 1 or 2 too many for a Latino Dominated market like this.

Todd Baker was gushing like crazy on his show on Tuesday about KKGO's new ratings; he went so far as to say that they are 'better than the other station's ratings ever were.

But I'm pretty certain that he must have been exaggerating.

He was. Dramatically.

Why has no one mentioned Go Country? That will end up being the real success story of 2007.

I am in total agreement on this statement, KKGO moved from a 1.2 to 1.7, and I believe as more people find out about the station these numbers will continue to rise.
They are currently in 19th for ratings in the Los Angeles Market.

It also broke into the 2-share range in 25-54, but is still lagging what KZLA did. It has likely peaked, but definitely a good move for Levine, considering the low billings on the classical format in the last few years.

But country music listening is up slightly year-to-year in the market when you factor in KFRG. That's not to mention those who satellite radio courted.

On another note, please thank Piolin for us. Without him, Amnesty would not have died today. His help inadvertently saved America.

The range for country has not changed beyond the margin of error of low-rated formats or stations. The margin of error on about 2 shares is 0.3 to 0.5 in either direction.

The 4 book average of KFRG (did not make book, but had "below book" numbers, still) and KZLA is about what the total shares of the two are today.

KFRG in May was only a smidgen away from missing MRS and dropping out of the list.

As another example, going back to Fall, 2003... the country share was nearly a half point higher than it is today.

Why would a station such as KOST be desperate for new music?

David---regarding your comments on KFRG immediately above, were you referring to the fact that the combined ratings for KKGO & KFRG in LA are in the 2.0.-3.0 range, which isn't all that bad?

And what does MRS stand for?

You were right--Todd Baker was exaggerating, and how, although a 1.7 with far less $$$ spent on advertising than MOVIN' is pretty darned good.

I'd hazard a guess that the word-of-mouth for KKGO is much better than it is for MOVIN as well.

No, a very, very low two combination share. Worse than the combined share of KZLA and KFRG in most past years.

And what does MRS stand for?

Minimum reporting Standards. The number of diaries and time spent listening required to be considered "in the book" by Arbitron. In LA, it is usually right above a 0.2 share. KFRG is barly meeting MRS now.

How would one go about finding out about the cume rankings as you are talking about above?
I am curious as to how the different air shifts are doing in comparison to KZLA as well as how they are doing in terms of growing in listenership.

With only 4 months on FM, would it not be likely this station could go hire in the share range for 25-54 rather than have peaked where it currently is?

Please excuse my not knowing alot about the rating system etc. I found these boards in hopes to learn more about this and other topics I see discussed here.

Thanks for clueing in a newbie :)

We are not talking about cume here, but either share or its equivalent, AQH persons or rating.

Share: percentage of radio listeners listening in a time period.
Rating: percentage of all people, listening or not ("the universe") listening to a station in a time perido.
AQH persons: the number of persons share and rating (the same number) represent.

Cume is the total number of different persons a station reaches in 12+ or any sub-demo group, for at least 5 minutes a week.

AQH persons or rating are used to establish ad prices, cume is sometimes used to determine reach of a campaign on one or more stations.

I am curious as to how the different air shifts are doing in comparison to KZLA as well as how they are doing in terms of growing in listenership.

Any data, beyond 12+ and rankers without share can not be published publically per our Arbitron contracts.

It probably peaked in the first month; anyone interested in country would know. Very unlikely that anyone who cares about the music has not found out now.

The Wolf, the new hot country in SF peaked in March, and is slighly off in April and May individual months.
