DVE has opened up their lead over KD. Whatever skewed KD's winter numbers has passed and they are now dropping down closer to #3 WPGB.

Aside from WAMO's surge, not much else of note, except that the Frogs have lost significant audience over the past year. The Steubenville signal on 103.5 isn't even showing up in the book anymore. I don't really understand why they need 103.5 and 104.3 with the same programming anyway.

But Keymarket doesn't have the smarts to do anything else. I've said a couple of times that 98.3 would be the ideal signal to replace WAMO, as it covers the city and little else. They could get higher ratings on that one signal than they get now with a 4-station combo.

They also have frogs in Altoona and Johnstown (one or both might technically belong to Forever, but it's the same owners). Those stations have Steve Kelsey from Altoona doing mornings, he's an old pro who's been in Altoona for probably 30 years. Put Jimmy Roach mornings on 104.3, 94.9, 103.5, 95.5 in Johnstown, 98.1 in Altoona (and those two are huge signals, 95.5 is the original WKYE) and Steve Kelsey afternoons everywhere. They also have a Country combo in the Meadville/Franklin/Oil City area, run them there too. They ought to be able to make a few bucks doing that. Maybe even LMA 97.7 in Butler.

Maybe I'm being obtuse, but since WAMO is up and WBZW is still way below KISS, shouldn't CBS flip or evolve WBZW to at least CHURBAN ? They still have STAR for non-rap pop music. CBS has a successful churban in Tampa, that even with a weaker signal, is competitive with CC's heritage CHR (93.3) and a "Beat" format clone (95.7).

i'm not big on country, but i have my moments. i like their music, and that they play a lot of it, but the corn pone presentation is just too over the top. rib-bits and froggy names for personalities may be a little worn out.
they should approach the audience a little more intelligently. i could never figure out the connection between a frog and country music. what is it, some rural thing? i grew up with an RD number and fail to see why a frog rather than a septic tank was selected as the stations symbol.

Back in the early Nineties, some company (maybe Keymarket) ran an oldies oulet in Richmond as WDCK----"the Duck". The jocks had names relating to ducks, unfortunately I can only remember "Bill Drake" which obviously had an insider meaning too. This guy was still on the station, now COX classic rocker WKLR, and using the same name last time I looked. Maybe there was a Webb Foote?

The argument against it is that you can't sell it in the Burgh. If WAMO wasn't flat broke we wouldn't be having this conversation.

California- I totally agree on the "Frogs." I have felt the same way, and I actually feel insulted whenever I hear them refer to "Jumping" Jimmy Roach.

This guy is a tremendous DJ with a career as storied as anyone's. To demean him like that actually makes me angry.

amen pratter....but the dignity in radio is gone...long gone. it's a shame with froggy because the station is solvent and well programmed. maybe it's just time to stop the cutesy stuff and be the real thing....or pick another lizard, like "snakey"......"iguana" ...or "toady"...

At least Pittsburgh doesn't have Keymarket's oldies format "The Pickle." Not sure if the jocks have to have pickle names like Kosher Kirby and Hal Dill.

You can say all you want about dignity becoming extinct in radio, but this needs to stop.

Are they going to make "Farrah Froggit" change her name now?

I agree with the over cute names on Froggy, Pickle, etc. It garners attention to the station and generates a fun, not too serious vibe early on. Over a long period of time, it seems too much. I wonder if Kirby or Frank or anyone involved ever researched how much it helps or hurts or even when it's burned out. Surely it's possible this kind of hyper focus may be too much for too long.

Farrah Froggit!!!! Now THAT'S funny.

The other aspect of it is that it makes virtually all of the jocks (except Jimmy Roach, who gets to use his real name) totally interchangeable, virtually meaningless parts of the station because it makes them essentially anonymous. Can't exactly take a frog name with you to the next gig....
