Latino 96.3

Wow -- is it me, or is this the biggest radio story of the year in our market?! I don't have demo ratings here, but that 12+ jump is HUGE! Clearly, clearly there was an appetite in this market.

And clearly, Emmis had every reason to be concerned, as Power dips to the lowest levels we've seen in a while.

Comments on KXOL's huge number today?

KXOL is #1 in teens and 18-24, but lost everywhere else. It has definitely affected power, and the lower end of the regional Mexican stations and taken a huge bite out of KSSE as well (they were off by more than half in September)

And they are selling it as an English, general market station, so the revenue will come from the affected English stations.

In NY, the reggaeton station knocked Mega WSKQ from 2nd to 7th, and in Chicago cost B-96 over a point in 18-34.

The format is real.

#1 18+, KLVE. KLVE is also tied for #2 in 12+, for a good comeback story.

In sales demos, the big, bug, big story is Jack.

Speaking of Power 106....

....This one has to be a stunner. It looks like Clear Channel and SBS really did a hatchet job on KPWR. And already the Hurban format is starting to take a bite out of several Rhythmics in the States in terms of ratings and audience shares. Chances are they that Power might have to regroup before their 20th anniversary in January, and soon.

Meanwhile it looks like KBIG's retooled direction is also showing progress, so it looks like this might be the turnaround that they were waiting for.

Then there's KKBT, who also got hit this time, but I don't think KXOL was a factor unless some of its Hispanic listeners bolted for Latino 96.3, or probably they were still trying to recoup after Steve Harvey's 'exit' from the Beat.

They are selling it as an English language station?? Or do you mean they are going after Anglo advertisers? I would guess 60% of their commercials are in Spanish. (Heh heh I actually listen a lot to them and I am NOWHERE near the target demo you speak of)

NYC are you talking about WCAA/WZAA? I remember (long time ago) when they were brokered as WHBI what a crappy station that was in the 60s.

> In sales demos, the big, bug, big story is Jack.

Do you mean the big Bug or the big big story haha..
BTW what do you think of Jack's "performance" in NYC AND the surrounding markets (LI & NJ)?

Keep in mind, it's one book. There's a newness factor to KXOL - and Power 106 went up - and is No. 1 18-34 - and since as K.M. always says - 12+ doesn't tell the story - Power 106 is up and succeeded where it matters most 18-34. 12+ is a beauty contest.

As far as KKBT goes, KXOL definitely looks to have had an effect. Remember, KKBT was a P2 for a lot of Hispanic listeners, who now likely use KXOL as a P1 or P2 with Power 106.

I think the real loser right now is KDAY. They are not going to make it.

Do you have inside information to that effect? You are posting this as if its fact. Or are you just speculating? Do you have facts to back up your statement? Kind of like the person who says KCXX is flipping to Reggaeton...

I think the worst one though, still has to be the one that started the thread - that Power 106 - the No.1 station 18-34 in L.A. may need to be regroup. I know about 40 other stations that would love to be in their situation.

Why don't people use some logic - or actually have REAL facts to back up their statements.

I think Power has been recognized as "faking the funk", so to speak...trying to appeal to the Latin Audience w/o one full time Latin jock(minus the sidekicks on certain shows)and no Latin imaging...listeners are smarter than you think...but I do agree with the fact that they're still in a great position to regroup!

My point is that they don't need to regroup. Sure, they've lost some shares 18-34 - but they are still No. 1. They have done a remarkable job of weathering the storm. I would think they are elated that they've been able to weather the KXOL storm especially.
