It may be a family thing. Her last diary entry on the station's website had this bad news:

Laura's Diary, March 6th, 2007
Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 1:25pm

Dear Diary,

Forgive me for this will be short. I will fill you in on all the great and scary details tomorrow. I am going on absolutely no sleep because I was worried sick about Charlie all night. He was rushed to the hospital yesterday afternoon after he ran full-force into flag pole at school. An ambulance came to the school and strapped him down to a board! Holy cow! He seems perfectly fine, but wow, all I kept thinking was "SWELLING OF THE BRAIN SWELLING OF THE BRAIN," so I was awake listening to every little tiny noise last night.

My day started off great yesterday because I won 200 bucks on a 2 dollar scratcher. I was going to take the kids to Toys R Us for a fun shopping spree. That didn't happen because Charlie got injured.

Anyway, I will tell you more tomorrow, Diary. All's well so far today, except for my head!

Jeff and Jer without Laura Cain is like Pizza without the Sauce.
I hope everything is okay with her. I always assumed she was part of the show so part of the same contract.

wow that latest diary entry does not sound very good if you read between the lines sounds like some type of psych problem poor girl don't know if I would dliscuss my personal life on a broadcast diary

I think I worked with her in Tampa Bay years ago at WSUN, and met up with her for dinner in dallas at one time also..Nice nice lady..I wish her well what ever the issue may be.
 
Hi Jeff,
I think you may be thinking of a different Laura Cain. The Laura Cain that used to be Star has been working with Jeff and Jer since they were on B100 in the early 90s. Before that, (IIRC), she was originally a traffic reporter for Airwatch Traffic in San Diego, and was assigned to do reports for KFMB AM and B100 FM. I do not know if she was heard on other stations. Jeff and Jer started at Y-95 in San Diego in 1987 before joining KFMB FM (B100) in 1991. There was good chemistry between her and Jeff and Jer and she joined the show, and has been with them ever since.

I wonder if she will end up on 103.7?
